Cheerful Chatter Speech-Language Services

Cheerful Chatter Speech-Language Services Skills are explicitly taught, practiced, and supported. When things make sense, progress follows. Because the right approach truly makes all the difference.

Social skills groups, reading groups and tutoring, and speech therapy for bright kids and teens who are capable but still struggle with friendships, reading, spelling, apraxia or clarity. We work with big kids and teens — many of whom are neurodivergent — who are capable, insightful, and trying, yet still find friendships, speech, or reading harder than they should. Through PEERS Social Skills Groups for Teens and Tweens, low-structure Game Days, Speech-to-Print Reading Groups, and individualized reading tutoring and speech therapy for speech clarity and Childhood Apraxia of Speech, we look beneath the surface to understand what’s actually getting in the way. Rather than relying on surface-level drills or quick fixes — or assuming growth happens simply from being in a group — we build a clear, intentional plan that makes sense for your child. Families value the clarity, structure, and steady communication we provide. Parents observe sessions through our live video feed, so you’re never left wondering what’s happening behind the scenes — you can see growth as it unfolds.

Kids who ramble, lose the story, or freeze when writing may be struggling with language ✍️

Some kids talk all day long, but struggle to organize their thoughts, tell a story clearly, understand what they read, or put ideas into writing.

That gap is easy to miss because the child is so bright 🔆

But when language is weak underneath, the struggle shows up when the demands go up.

It’s not just about knowing what to do 👀

Many kids understand social skills — but still struggle in real situations.

That’s because confidence doesn’t come from instruction alone.

It comes from:
✍️ trying
🎲 practicing
🔄 adjusting in real time

That’s what helps skills stick — and confidence grow.

Kids don’t learn social skills from instruction alone 👀

A lot of kids know what they’re supposed to do socially.

But knowing isn’t the same as doing.

Social skills only start to stick when kids have:
— real situations
— real interactions
— real opportunities to try, adjust, and try again

That’s where confidence actually builds.

Avoiding people doesn’t mean they’re not interested 👀

Many kids actually want to connect — but they’re not sure how to do it in the moment.

Social confidence comes from two things:
— knowing what to do
— having enough practice to feel comfortable doing it

If either piece is missing, kids are much more likely to hold back — even when they want to join in.

This isn’t about motivation.

It’s about having the right skills — and the confidence to use them.

Reading shouldn’t feel this hard.

Some children can read — but they’re working much harder than they should be.

You might notice:
— slow, choppy reading
— frequent sounding out
— getting stuck on words
— losing track of meaning

This isn’t about effort.

It’s usually a sign the underlying reading system isn’t fully in place yet.

At Cheerful Chatter, we focus on building the skills that make reading easier, faster, and more automatic.

Your child can read… but it’s slow and exhausting 👀

Some children can read—but it takes so much effort that it doesn’t feel smooth or automatic.

They’re sounding out constantly, getting stuck, or losing track of meaning.

That’s not about effort.

It’s a sign the reading system isn’t fully automatic yet.

When reading takes that much energy, comprehension and confidence both take a hit.
