The Unified Diaphragm — all one continuous fascial weave. Where breathing begins and vitality is expressing in waves. Deep internal comfort and touch. We can find this for ourselves. We can do this together.

The Inner Life of Fascia | Micro-Movement
Every living cell is already in motion — you don’t need to make it happen.
Explore | Simple Practice:
—Turn the palm of one hand upward and rest the back of that hand on your leg.
—Look at it. See its soft, padded tissues. Feel gravity as it settles your hand onto your leg, stimulating sensation. Be patient.
—Feel where your hand is resting.
—Now slowly — feeling what you are doing as you do it — lift your hand and turn the palm down to touch your leg. Let it land with soft contact. Then pause. Do nothing.
—Can you feel where your hand touches your leg? Let yourself linger there.
—Now, ever so gently, allow a little more weight — a subtle, pulsating movement — to settle downward, soft and deep, in the direction of your knee.
—See if you can feel that soft touch and pressure transmit through the tissues of your leg.
—Imagine, notice or feel that you are moving the tissues from themselves. Micro-movement.

We begin quietly and build to a complete practice — strong and deep without strain — applying those principles to our moving and breathing bodies.
Part 3 — We Resolve and Rest.

For centuries, the mesentery — a double fold of the peritoneum that attaches the intestines to the abdominal wall — was thought to be a fragmented and insignificant set of structures.
—Now recognized to be an organ, the mesentery’s reputation has risen considerably.
—What does conscious and curious embodiment offer to our experience and understanding of this magnificent structure within?

There’s a gorgeous, undulating sea-creature of an organ that supports, nourishes, and even loves you — and it lives within your navel.

When every thought circles back to “me,” meditation breaks the loop.
Meditation may look like self-involvement, but it can be the opposite. It pulls you out of the relentless loop of self-referencing your way through life. Meditation has the power to open you to a larger picture. That larger perspective is the ground for doing things that matters — loving your people, doing good work, fighting the good fight.

When every thought circles back to “me,” meditation breaks the loop.

Why Do We Harden and Grip Through Our Kidneys?
As yoga practitioners and teachers, many of us are keenly aware of a common tendency — to harden the kidneys, sometimes even pushing them forward into the body.

We’ve all been told (and told our students) to “soften and fill the kidneys.” And many of us have tried movement after movement in hopes of doing so.

But moving primarily from the musculoskeletal system doesn’t automatically grant us access to the kidneys. In fact, it can lead to the opposite: pushing, bracing, and hardening.

Restore reserves, soften urgency, and reclaim vitality.

Our Story

Embodyoga® is a radical and inclusive approach to the ancient science of yoga. It is an evolving tapestry woven from the deeply healing, therapeutic, and spiritual essence of yoga and cutting edge studies in the field of body-mind-consciousness. Embodyoga® fuses the emergent wisdom of Body-Mind Centering®, which was developed by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, with Hatha Yoga practices and Ta***ic Yoga philosophy.

Embodyoga® begins with the premise that our entire personal self—body, heart, and mind — is a sea of vibrating creative awareness. We recognize that each aspect of our physical, and energetic form is an expression of awareness manifesting through, and as, individual qualities and traits. We experience these aspects of self as gradations of awareness, all made of the same stuff, all having equal value and importance, and all interwoven to form a system that is perfectly equipped and primed for self- realization. In other words, through the gift of human consciousness we are able to witness our very nature as it is: creative, bright, alive, and self-aware.

When we practice Embodyoga®, we harness the powerful forces of curiosity and desire to guide our exploration of the body-mind system. Our inquiry initiates and leads the journey. Whatever route this inward journey takes, it leads to the revelation of the unity that underlies all form. Even as we are obviously individuals with our personal qualities and traits, we are also universal in that all that we are is awareness at its source.
