The Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) provides services and supports for individuals with developmental disabilities—things like help at home, community programs, and resources for greater independence.

If you’ve been thinking about DDA services, it’s worth starting sooner rather than later ⏰

A lot of families put it off, but the application process can take a while—and when you actually need support, waiting can be tough.

When you apply, it really helps to have things like:
• your most recent IEP
• any psychological or school testing
• evaluations or reports that show current needs

Even if you’re not totally sure you’ll qualify yet, getting your foot in the door early can make things a lot easier down the line.

If you have questions or want help with the application, our Information & Resources team at Optimal Case Management is here for you.
You can reach us at information-and-resources@ohc-inc.com
we’re happy to help 💙

You don’t have to wait until things feel urgent to reach out for support 💙

Language matters but there is no one-size-fits-all to communication. Listening first and following the person’s lead is the best way to have effective, respectful communication!

In the autism community, language matters—and you may see two common approaches:

Identity-first language (“autistic person”) - Autistic” describes a person’s identity
Puts the focus on accepting autism as part of the person - Many autistic people prefer this

Person-first language (“person with autism”) - “Autism” describes a condition someone has
The person is separate from the diagnosis. Some people prefer this

So, which is right?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Preferences vary widely—many autistic individuals favor identity-first language, while others prefer person-first. The most respectful approach is to listen and follow each person’s lead.
