On the heels of my recent certification for offering gender affirming care in my practice, it's now transgender awareness week, and I want to encourage other massage therapists to educate themselves about treating trans and gender diverse clients in their practices. As clients, they are a population that have their own nuanced and specific needs, indications, contradications that we as therapists should be educated on. We train and do course work to treat so many other populations, transgender and gender diverse folk should be no different. It takes a great deal of mental and emotional labor off their shoulders, just at the consulation and paperwork stage of session if we are prepared and deliberate in how we receive our clients.

So in that spirit here are some educational resources that I invite you to take and please share:

Luigi Continenza's Beyond the Binary course is extremely informative and recommended for bodyworkers. It's worth 5 creds towards CEUs and I believe there are sliding scale options in the description to help with price.

A free course I took on just Gender Identity training that can be taken by anyone was put together by Kez Cesarz that was with the recently closed LGBT Center of Southeast Wisconsin, making it all the more important we get involved as important resources for the community has been diminished.

Super excited and proud to announce completing Luigi Continenza's Beyond the Binary course! It's exactly the what I've been looking for in a gender-affirming care course for bodyworkers since I set out on my own, and I cannot recommend it enough to other bodyworkers. Our trans and gender diverse clients not only deserve inviting spaces, but providers that are educated and informed to their needs like any other populations we serve. I also had the delight of having a 1:1 with Luigi who is a fantastic human and helped me alot with putting together my plan for future hands-on trainings that will help me serve the community.

Hey Everyone! I am absolutely elated as we come into September because it's the 2 years mark of working with you all. Finding space with Face West Skincare two years ago is one of the most serendipitous turns my life has ever taken. I faced some of the biggest challenges I have ever had to in my life during this endeavor and accomplished more than I've ever thought I was capable of in the midst of them with your support behind me. But before I get all blubbery (We're not quite at the Anniversary yet) I wanted to make this month a little extra special for all of you too so I'm doing a little something extra in all my sessions until Sept 30th and I thought adding a couple Hot Stones could do that. They can help make the sessions more relaxing or be a great tool to get at difficult knots. If heats not your thing we can work with the stones cool too. Stones or not, I appreciate you all so much.
