As the sun rises today, the land feels hushed, wrapped in winter’s quiet breath. Today is not the beginning of winter. It’s the still point within it — a moment suspended between what has been and what is yet to unfold. In the Wheel of the Year, winter begins at the end of harvest, when the last crops are gathered, the leaves have mostly fallen, and the earth has already begun to turn inward. By the solstice, the season is already present — slow, patient, and listening.

The solstice itself holds a subtle kind of magic. The night is at its deepest, yet the light is already growing — imperceptibly at first, almost shyly, beneath the frost and the fog. Evergreens hold their color. Seeds rest patiently beneath the soil. The wind moves softly through the trees, carrying whispers of what is yet to come. Life continues, quietly, in places that seem still.

Today doesn’t ask you to do anything. If it feels right, just take a moment tonight — step outside, breathe in the cool air, and thank the earth for returning the light. Notice it in the branches, in the frozen berries, in the stillness of the land. Let yourself arrive fully in this quiet, magical moment.

No fireworks. No resolutions. No bold rituals. Just presence. Just noticing. Just this moment.
This is all our natural world asks of us.

A butterfly was found fluttering around in my kitchen today, in the middle of December! 😄 Glad it's not a moth. It's a cabbage white butterfly; I put it on my basil plant. What a fun and delightful little visitor!

It’s Okay to Be Tired — A December Reflection

It’s okay to be tired.
December arrives with its long nights and early sunsets,
a month when even the sky seems to rest.
This is the darkest stretch of the year,
and our bodies feel it,
our minds feel it,
our hearts feel it too.
Nature isn’t asking for momentum now.
It’s whispering something softer:
Slow down. Breathe. Turn inward.
Even the trees release their last leaves
and stand quietly in their bare truth,
trusting that rest is part of the cycle.
So if your energy feels dimmer,
if motivation flickers like a candle in a draft,
know that nothing is wrong with you.
You are simply syncing with the season—
responding to what the earth already understands.
It’s okay to be tired in the darkest month.
Rest is not weakness;
it is wisdom.
It is the gentle pause that prepares you
for the light that will return.
