💛 Grief doesn’t take a night off, and neither does support.

Family Friday is a monthly evening for children ages 4-14 and their parents or caregivers who are grieving the death of a loved one. Children and adults meet separately in age-appropriate, supportive spaces. This program is free of charge for families.

📅 Friday, May 1, 2026
⏰ 5:30-7:00pm
🎨 Grief-related activities for children
🍕 Pizza dinner provided
🌸 Monthly Theme: Growing Through Grief
🌱 Children will reflect on how grief brings change and growth while decorating flowerpots and planting flowers that symbolize healing, resilience, and new beginnings.

This is a space to connect, create, and feel less alone alongside others who understand.

📝 Registration is required each month.

Grief doesn’t require letting go of love.

Dennis Klass' Continuing Bonds Theory reminds us that adapting doesn’t mean severing ties with the person who died. Instead, many people adapt by finding new ways to stay connected to someone who is no longer physically here.

That connection might look like:
• Talking to them (in your thoughts or out loud)
• Keeping traditions alive
• Holding onto objects, stories, or rituals that keep them present

These bonds aren’t signs of being “stuck.”
They’re signs of love adjusting to a new reality.

For many grievers, maintaining a meaningful connection can be grounding and comforting. The relationship doesn’t disappear. It changes.

Grief support means making room for those ongoing connections, not questioning them or trying to replace them.

Love doesn’t end when a life does.

It can be normal to feel like anger is wrong, or something we need to rush to get rid of. The truth is that anger is a completely natural and normal part of grieving.

There is no rush to move through this emotion. There is no need to shame ourselves for feeling an understandable and natural emotion. Anger is a feeling, and feelings ebb and flow.

Sometimes people want to show up for someone who is grieving, but they freeze because they are afraid of saying the wrong thing. The truth is, support does not have to be perfect to be meaningful.

A simple check-in with no pressure can go a long way. Offering one specific, manageable form of help can feel more supportive than saying, “Let me know if you need anything.”

Grief can make it hard to respond, decide, or ask for help. Gentle, low-pressure messages remind someone they are not alone, while still giving them space.

Save this for later, and share it with someone who wants to support a grieving friend but does not know what to say.
