Do you suffer from acid reflux?

Your stomach produces natural acids that help your body digest food. Sometimes, these acids travel up the throat and into the mouth, especially after a large meal. Ordinarily, our saliva rebalances the acid levels in our mouth and everything’s fine.

But for those who suffer from gastroesophageal reflux, also known as acid reflux or GERD, gastric acids reach the mouth throughout the day. This process is especially damaging when you’re asleep, since you are swallowing less often and your mouth is producing less saliva.

Another concern is the dry mouth caused by many acid reflux medicines. Saliva not only helps neutralize the acids caused by acid reflux but also helps to wash away food particles and reduce bacteria that attack tooth enamel. This is why lower saliva production may increase your risk for cavities.

Be sure to mention this to us at your next cleaning/checkup. There are many physical ailments that can contribute to your oral health, and it helps us to know everything you are dealing with so we can properly assess your teeth and treatment. 203-248-0072

Ok, ok -- we know we are about 2 days late for National Brush Day, but in our defense, it was on a Saturday. And there really aren't THAT many dental holidays to celebrate so we are gonna take what we can get! Happy (Belated) National Brush Day! A whole day (or 3) dedicated to the magic of the toothbrush and what it can accomplish for your mouth and teeth health!

After all those Halloween treats, there’s no better time to remind everyone that a healthy smile starts with great brushing habits!

Here are a few quick tips from your dental team:
✨ Brush 2x a day for 2 minutes each time.
✨ Use a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste.
✨ Don’t forget to replace your toothbrush every 3–4 months (or sooner if the bristles are frayed).
✨ And yes — flossing still matters!
