One year ago today Dalton had SDR. I was strapping him into his car seat to leave for Columbus and when I told him we were going to his surgery he sang “I’m gonna see MY victory.” Most of you probably know the song but I’m posting the entire lyrics bc I’ll catch myself singing things sometimes on autopilot and not really paying attention to the words. When I read them they resonate more with me.

The weapon may be formed, but it won't prosper
When the darkness falls, it won't prevail
'Cause the God I serve knows only how to triumph
My God will never fail
Oh, my God will never fail
I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You, Lord
I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You, Lord (oh yeah)

There's power in the mighty name of Jesus
Every war He wages He will win
I'm not backing down from any giant
'Cause I know how this story ends
Yes, I know how this story ends
I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You, Lord
I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You, Lord
I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to You, Lord
I'm gonna see a victory
I'm gonna see a victory

For the battle belongs to You, Lord
Gonna worship my way through this battle
Gonna worship my way through, hey
You take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for good
You take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for good
You take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for good
You take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for good
You take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for good
You take what the enemy meant for evil
And You turn it for good
You turn it for good

It’s actually one of my favorite songs, I couldn’t help but tear up when he said that. How true it is and has become. Dalton has developed more gross motor skills in this year than his whole life. He’s able to do things he was never able to do before. He plays and runs around with his friends and other kids at the park (you have no idea what that does to my momma heart) He climbs almost anything he possibly can. He can walk backwards...WOW! He’s running, without braces!!! Before SDR he crawled and used his walker 90% of the time. Now he’s walking independently 100% of the time and we only use the walker in large crowds for his safety and for longer distances.

He still has a long way to go but man if he’s doing all this in one year I can’t even imagine what it will be like in 5 years from now. Yesterday was our last day of physical therapy. He will have some time off this Summer from that but I will continue his aquatic therapy and strengthening. The time spent participating in his therapy has paid off as now I can really help him by myself.

If you have prayed for Dalton in this last year, thank you ❤️ if you donated to his GoFundMe, thank you ❤️ this has been the quickest most exhausting year of our lives but the results are priceless. I say it all the time but I cannot wait to see what God does with this little boy.

Folks, we have a runner 🏃‍♂️!!!!! It is surreal to even by saying it. He’s been working on this for a while and today was by far his best yet. It needs some cleaning up but this way more than what would have been possible before his surgery and we are only 6 months post op!!! He will be running laps in no time 🙌🏻

Today is our last day of Phase 2 intensive PT. There was a point in September and half of October where we were at 6 different therapies in 4 day period of time and we were all getting a little burned out, but we knew going into this that it wasn’t going to be easy so we pushed through. During Phase 3 we will reduce to only 3 PT sessions and 1 aquatic therapy session, Dalton has done so well in the water and really loves the freedom the water gives him. We will be leaving for Texas in January for his two week intensive, which is 2 hours a day. Thanks again for everyone who has supported us on this journey and all the prayers for Dalton. He truly is the toughest and bravest boy I know.

Dalton is back at Hippotherapy. We are so blessed to be able to do this through Triangle Therapy in Eaton. This therapy has helped significantly with his balance, coordination and strength. And he looks so handsome on that horse 🥰🥰🥰

It’s been a while since I have posted on Daltons progress to this page so here we go. He is doing amazing!! We are going into week 12 of PT and Dalton is right where he should be with his progress. He has been walking more independently than he ever did before so that is extremely encouraging. We knew going into this surgery it was not a quick fix and the best is still yet to come, it will be months or even years before we see the full benefit from SDR and we are ok with that. We know in the long run we did what was best for him by removing the spasticity from his body. This is a video from his last PT session. The device he is in is called a Vector and it’s pretty cool, and obviously he is having a lot of fun ☺️

I have had a lot of people ask if Daltons GoFundMe is still going and the answer is YES!!! He still in need of a vibration plate and some equipment we can use at home to help during our home therapy sessions I will be doing with him in addition to what he is receiving at Children’s and Texas at the end of July. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone that has already donated. This all would not be possible without your help ❤️ This photo is from today during PT, he screamed and cried last week when we put him on top of this mat lol. Night and day difference, look at that smile 🥰 https://gf.me/u/x6n35c

HOORAY for getting discharged Friday at 11:00am!!!!! Superman is busting out of this place. The first day of therapy when I saw how he was acting and how weak he was I thought well dang we will be here until Christmas 😜 We are both so excited to go home. PT starts at Children’s on Monday.

You know the line from A League of Their Own, “there’s no crying in baseball.” Well when you have me for a Mom there’s no off days in rehab lol. I got him to walk over 500ft today, but I do know when he needs a break, I’m excited to update his therapists when they return tomorrow. Toughest kid I know 💪🏻

Today was better than expected, he’s back in his own clothes and braces. He was excited for therapy and he cried when I told him we were getting back into bed lol. He likes being in the wheelchair and having some independence. So he stood for the first time since the surgery and took some steps with help. The strength isn’t there which is very normal at this stage in recovery but I loved how determined he was and how positive he was about the whole thing. The will this boy has is something else. I got to hold him too, I’ve been waiting for that!!! His legs feel so loose they just wrapped around me. We have a very busy day tomorrow, pray for him to have the strength and patience to complete all his therapies.

Quiet day 🙌🏻 we got to leave the unit in the wheelchair which he loved, we had ice cream together and went outside for a little bit. He actually asked me to put him in the chair after lunch which was shocking considering he throws a fit during the transition of taking him from the bed to the chair. He’s not quite ready to sit up without back support, I really think he just doesn’t like how it feels. Dalton relied on his tight muscles, the surgery took that away so he’s still acclimating to a new body without spasticity but each day I see him making progress. Tomorrow we move downstairs to rehab and he will do that for 3-4 hours each day with Sundays off.
