Naval Medical Center Portsmouth clinics and outpatient services will be open during normal hours on 2 February, 2026. The Branch Health Clinics will follow the guidance of the installation that they are on.

Naval Medical Center Portsmouth is closely watching the weather forecast for this weekend. It looks like the main snowfall will start Saturday Jan. 31around noon and end sometime on Sunday Feb 1. During the event driving conditions may be hazardous. If you have to come to the medical center, please use caution.

Considerations for Saturday and Sunday:
• NMCP Emergency Department will remain open 24/7
• Inpatient care will continue
• Outpatient Pharmacy will be open regular hours 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

NMCP Pharmacy Refill Line Downtime

You may experience busy signals when calling the military pharmacy prescription refill interactive voice response system – or prescription refill line – Feb. 3 from 4 to 6 p.m., as the system is updated.

Naval Medical Center Portsmouth pharmacy’s prescription refill line may be unavailable for about two hours. If you call the prescription refill line at this time, you will hear a busy signal. Please wait and call back to complete your refill later.
You may still use the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal to refill to refill your prescriptions.

You can now use the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal to request refills for most prescriptions from your military pharmacy. This new feature, which began Feb. 29, 2024, applies to your existing medications that have remaining refills.

The Honorable U.S. Senator of Virginia Tim Kaine visited Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, where he toured the hospitals's trauma bay and simulation center.

During the visit, Kaine spent time meeting NMCP's staff and learning about medical training equipment like the robotic surgery simulator and the advanced canine medical trainer.

First NMCP Baby of the New Year

Aviation Electronics Technician Second Class Sierrah Collins and Electrician's Mate, Nuclear First Class Isaiah Collins baby girl was born at 8:05 a.m. on New Years Day at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. She weighed seven pounds three ounces. After the birth her older sister declared that it was her baby now.
