To our veterans in this season—especially those carrying memories that feel louder right now—
If the nights have been long…
If sleep feels out of reach…
If memories from past deployments are resurfacing…
You are not alone.

Many veterans experience increased PTSD symptoms during times of global conflict. Difficulty sleeping, hyper-alertness, and unwanted memories are not signs of weakness—they are your mind and body doing exactly what they were trained to do: protect you. Even years later, that system can stay on high alert, especially at night.

But you don’t have to carry this by yourself.

🌙 If you find yourself awake at night, try this:
Ground your body: Place your feet flat on the floor, press your hands together, and slowly name 5 things you can see, 4 you can feel, 3 you can hear.

Control your breathing: Inhale for 4… hold for 4… exhale for 6. Repeat until your body begins to settle.

Interrupt the spiral: Gently shift your thoughts—try visualizing random, neutral images (like objects for each letter of a word). This can help quiet the mind.

Get out of bed if needed: Sit somewhere safe and dimly lit. You are not “failing” sleep—you are caring for your nervous system.

Remind yourself: I am safe right now. This moment is different.

Sleep struggles are incredibly common for those living with PTSD—especially among veterans. And healing is possible—with support.
If you’re struggling, reach out. Talk to someone you trust. Connect with a counselor who understands military life. There is strength in not going through this alone.
