To recap 🔥 Understanding the 3 Main Types of Agni in Ayurveda
In Ayurveda, Agni is the metabolic fire that governs digestion, energy, and transformation—both physically and emotionally.
Over the last 30+ years as an Ayurvedic practitioner, I’ve seen again and again that when Agni is in balance, everything flows: digestion improves, the mind steadies, and healing becomes possible.
Here are the three imbalanced states of Agni I see most often in my clients:
1. Manda Agni (Slow Digestive Fire)
This is a sluggish metabolism—common in Kapha types. Symptoms include heaviness after meals, low appetite, bloating, and weight gain. The body feels slow, dull, and stagnant. 👉 This is where we focus on gently stimulating Agni with warmth, movement, and lighter foods.
2. Tikshna Agni (Sharp Digestive Fire)
This is an intense, overactive fire—often seen in Pitta types. Symptoms include strong hunger, acid reflux, irritability, loose stools, and inflammation. The fire burns too hot, too fast. 👉 Here, we work to cool and soothe with grounding foods and rhythms that support calmness.
3. Vishama Agni (Irregular Digestive Fire)
This is unstable digestion—classic in Vata imbalances. You may feel fine one day, then bloated or constipated the next. Appetite fluctuates. This pattern is fueled by stress, irregular routines, and overstimulation. 👉 We restore steadiness with routine, nourishment, and nervous system support.
When digestion is strong, healing becomes effortless. That’s why restoring Agni is always step one in the Serious Cleanse.
