Hot topic: Why do men feel uncomfortable in women-dominated spaces?
I’ve heard this come up so often over the years in a lot in studios, fitness classes, and other movement spaces. And honestly, it says less about the women in the room and more about the stories men carry into it.
Many men were conditioned to lead, dominate, or control the space they’re in. When they walk into a room full of women, suddenly that familiar role isn’t available. Instead of standing in confidence, many default to towering in fear, projecting discomfort, intimidation, or even avoidance.
But here’s the truth:
🌿 Women have had to navigate male-dominated spaces-forever.
🌿 Men are often not taught how to adapt in the same way.
🌿 Feeling out of place doesn’t mean you don’t belong, it means you’re growing.
When men learn to ground into presence rather than control, their being in these spaces isn’t an intrusion, it’s a contribution.
Confidence isn’t about towering over anyone.
It’s about standing steady with everyone.
Because if masculinity is rooted in presence, steadiness, and respect, then showing up in that space is not threatening at all, it’s expansive.
So here’s the invitation: if you’re a man who feels out of place in these spaces, keep showing up. Stand in confidence, lean into the discomfort, and recognize that your safe presence matters more than your fear of being out of place. Because quite frankly unless it is specified that the class is just for women, we WANT you there (in your safe, healthy masculine, that is)!
This is how we heal + alchemize, together.
Be the change. 🖤
