Heat Safety Tips:
Stay hydrated!
Drink lots of water, and avoid sugary drinks, or alcohol.
Consider rehydration with electrolyte drinks like zero-sugar Gatorade.
Stay cool!
Wear loose fitting, light colored clothing
Avoid strenuous activity between 10:00am-4:00pm
Seek air conditioned places
Take cool showers to help regulate your body temperature
Heat related illnesses:
Heat cramps:
Painful muscle spasms, often in the legs and abdomen, accompanied by heavy sweating.
Heat Exhaustion:
Symptoms include heavy sweating, pale and clammy skin, weakness, nausea, dizziness, headache, and rapid pulse.
If not treated, it can progress to heat stroke.
Heat Stroke:
The most serious form, characterized by a high body temperature (103ยฐF or higher), hot and dry skin (or sweating that has stopped), rapid pulse, confusion, and potential loss of consciousness.
Heatstroke requires immediate medical attention.
Heat Syncope: Fainting or dizziness due to heat exposure.
Heat Edema: Swelling of hands, feet, and ankles due to heat.
Heat Rash: Skin irritation with small, red bumps or blisters.
Children, elderly, pets, and people with pre-existing medical conditions are at much higher risk.
