Betty Irene Hinds

In Loving Memory of Betty Hinds

March 20, 1932 – March 25, 2026

Betty went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Betty lived a life marked by deep faith, devoted service, and unwavering love for her family.

Betty was born on March 20, 1932, in Hannibal, Missouri, the daughter of Alvie Benjamin Hill and Goldie Irene Hill (Martin). On April 9, 1950, she married the love of her life, Howard Hinds. Together, they built a strong Christian home and were blessed with four children, 12 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren—a legacy that continues to reflect her love and devotion.

Betty and Howard began their ministry early in their marriage, faithfully serving at Calvary Baptist Church. They led the RA and GA programs, started the church’s bus ministry to help many community children attend church, and taught Sunday School for many years. They also played a role in building the current Calvary building when it relocated from Hope Street in 1980. Betty had a special heart for young women and often opened her home to host Bible studies, offering encouragement, wisdom, and fellowship.

Her love was especially evident in the way she cared for Howard during his long illness, faithfully tending to him for over a decade with strength and selflessness.

Betty found great joy in a home filled with family and friends. She was well known for her delicious fried chicken, chocolate sheet cake, and sweet tea. She loved playing games, spending time with those she cherished, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.

Above all, Betty’s life was a testimony of her faith in Christ. She served faithfully at Calvary Baptist Church and later at her son’s church, Brush Arbor Baptist. She shared the gospel with her children and grandchildren, gathering them around the Big Bible Storybook. Even in her homebound years, she remained a devoted prayer warrior for her family and friends.

While she will be deeply missed, her family rejoices in the promise of her eternal home. As Scripture reminds us, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.”

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; her brothers, Charles Hill, and Leo Hill; and her sister, Kathleen Turner. She is survived by her sister, Patty Fullington (Dwight); her children, Larry Hinds (Janet), Ron Hinds (Cindy), Sherry Givan (Ed), and David Hinds (Pam); her 12 grandchildren, Kimberly Fullington (Andy), Kelly Hinds, Ryan Hinds, Chris Hinds, Regan Hinds, Rachel Westrum (Tim), Michael Hinds (Becky), Elizabeth McGee (Jacob), Jessica Bonvillian (David), BJ Platt (Ashli), Adam Hinds (Kristen), and Brian Hinds (Erin); and her 25 great-grandchildren: Brent, Samuel, Kharis, Khessed, Bella, Kayt, Silas, Joel, Michelle, Gabriel, Gideon, Gibson, Sophie, Briar, Kason, Ava, Ella, Gannon, Graham, Brock, Layla, Kaden, Aubrey, Kaylee, Karmon.

We apologize for any inconvenience on Wednesday and Thursday as our cemetery groundskeepers work to remove several ash trees that have died due to disease.

For everyone’s safety, please be mindful of workers and, if possible, avoid the area during this time. Heavy equipment will be in use, and it can be difficult for operators to see their surroundings clearly.

Each tree will be removed along with the stump. Crews will also clean up debris, fill in the root areas with dirt, and reseed the ground.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
