Assisted Living residents created a Jack-o-lantern today who they named, “The Beave” because of his one large beaver tooth. As one resident commented, “This was more work than I thought it would be!” However, a great time had by all. He is currently residing with the Wheelock scarecrow, known as “Gorgeous George.”

Wheelock Terrace residents braved the chilly wind to Walk to End Alzheimer’s. A fun time had by all!

Memory care residents had so much fun with art therapist, Kerry Harding. After sharing a beautiful pop up book of The Wizard of Oz, residents tried their hand at painting pumpkin scarecrows. After they were mounted and displayed, residents sat for over a half hour talking about each painting and admiring their work. Well done friends!!!

We stretched ourselves on Monday by learning a new game: Mexican Train. Thank you to volunteer teachers Ann Richardson and Anne Daveni. We might not have totally understood it, but we had fun!!!

Costume Fridays at Wheelock the whole month of October! Plus Chef Doug made four beautiful wooden pumpkin hangings to be raffled off. Angela was one of the four lucky winners!

Memory Care had a blast today with Dartmouth students playing balloon volleyball and drinking cider. The students brought out the very best in our residents and there was laughter all around.

On September 23, the day after the Autumnal Equinox, Wheelock Terrace had a Fall Fest. After fortifying ourselves with pumpkin bread, cider donuts, pumpkin whoopie pies, and cold cider (Thank you, Chef Doug!), we guessed the weight of a pumpkin (20.5 lbs), made a scarecrow, and bowled with miniature pumpkins. The highlight however, was the donut eating contest! We laughed until we cried. Residents love it when staff participate in our fun as well. Later in the week, we went apple picking at Poverty Lane. As one resident commented, “You make me do things I’ve never done before,” thus proving that you’re never too old to try new things.

Life at Wheelock is: cards, crafts, concerts, cooking, curbside bowling, cocktails, caring for the garden, and camaraderie.
