Herbs & Sympathy We offer bulk herbs, teas, and other wellness products and services. We currently have over 100 herbs on our shelves. Come and spend some time with us.

Come see us @ The Serpent's Key in Downtown Hanover, Pa. Sometimes a new endeavor begins when a mom, who absolutely loved being a mom and enjoyed her children immensely, has to cope with a huge empty nest. Necessity prompts her that it is time to follow a different path. So, she went back to school – an excellent coping strategy, albeit an expensive one. When she completed her first Master’s degree in Nutrition and Herbal Medicine, Hedgewitch Enterprises (HER) was born in a little office in Abbottstown, PA, during the fall of 2017. However, she very much loved the process of learning and though she did learn a great deal with first degree, she wanted to learn much more about plant medicine. She continued for another year and completed a second Masters in Therapeutic Herbalism. She found that her heart truly lies with the plants that can heal us and with the people who need them. So, HER expanded a little and opened a small booth, Herbs & Sympathy, at The Markets of Hanover in August 2018 with the intention of helping more people and upholding her mission statement. By February 2019, she had expanded again into a larger booth at the market and moved the private office to a home office to conserve time and resources. She loved the name of her little booth so much that she decided to change our business name to Herbs & Sympathy. In July 2022, she expanded a third time into a bigger space. As she has retired from her “muggle” job in December 2021, she can now devote more time to Herbs & Sympathy and she is ready to spread her roots and grow. In keeping with this, Herbs & Sympathy has now relocated to 28 Carlisle street and is partnering with The Serpent's Key. We would love to share how plants – leaf, petal, root – can heal us and move us from here to healthy. Our Mission is to strive through honest, heartfelt, educated intention and earth conscious endeavors to create and to bring to clients and customers, services and products that support body, soul and mind. Backyard plant check-in but 1st - reminder the serpents key is operating a normal schedule today. Herbs & Sympathy has taken the day to catch up our capsule line. Herbs & Sympathy reopens Tuesday at 10am.

Now back to the plants!
Right now, many yards are full of early spring growers like violets and purple dead nettle. These plants are incredibly common and easy to overlook, but learning to recognize what is already growing around you is one of the first steps in herbal education.

In these photos:
💜 The low purple flowers with rounded to heart-shaped leaves are violets
💗 The fuzzy, layered plant with pinkish-purple flowers is purple dead nettle

Before harvesting or using any wild or yard-grown plant, always ask:
— Has this area been sprayed?
— Has it been treated with w**d killer or lawn chemicals?
— Is it near a roadside, sidewalk treatment area, or pet traffic zone?
— Am I 100% sure of identification?

Never use plant matter from an area that may have been treated with pesticides or herbicides.

The best herbal practice starts with safety, respect, and good identification. 🌱

Tonight’s reminder from Herbs & Sympathy 🌿

The apothecary only will be closed tomorrow for Zombie Day and will reopen Tuesday at 10am inside The Serpent’s Key Shoppe & Sanctuary.

If you’ve been meaning to grab capsules or place a request, now is a great time to reach out. Our capsule stock has been hit hard lately and I’ll be spending the weekend working on small-batch restocks to get shelves filled back up.

Because everything is made in small batches with care, some items may take a little time to replenish — so if there’s something you need, please message me as soon as possible so I can plan accordingly and get it into the next round of production. 💚

Today I’m reblending teas, placing an herb order, and filling shelves back up little by little. If there’s something you’ve been waiting for, now is a great time to message me.
If you need capsules for pickup, please let me know today so I can make sure they’re ready. Everything here is made in small batches, and capsule stock has been getting hit hard lately, so a heads up always helps.
