Just completed Mastery II by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. Mastery III starts December 1. Once completed, I will be eligible to sit for the Board certification exam by the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine in May.

Only five other docs in the entire country have the “Triple Crown” of being Board certified by all three Sleep boards.

I hope/expect to make that 6!

Attention ladies - especially if pregnant. Even in young and otherwise healthy women, obstructive sleep apnea is not just a fat old man’s disease. Every woman complaining of headaches, fatigue or depression/anxiety should have a sleep test to rule out sleep apnea. Push your physician on this. The standard test for daytime sleepiness (Epworth Sleepiness Scale) was developed with male patients. Women have DIFFERENT symptoms with sleep apnea than men. Headaches, constant fatigue, and depression/anxiety could be caused by sleep apnea.

Oral appliances for sleep apnea are effective, comfortable, quiet, covered by medical insurance - and not a buzzkill for your bed partner.

Yikes! A study just documented that women who are obese AND have Type II diabetes have a whopping 89% likelihood of having obstructive sleep apnea.

Not all sleep apnea patients need a mask. Some don't even need an oral appliance. If you have positional sleep apnea, you may only need help staying off your back when you sleep. We have seen patients with severe sleep apnea when they're sleeping on their backs have NO sleep apnea on their sides. Could this be you?
