It’s Monday y’all…who else wants this beautiful weekend to last another day? Are you feeling resistant to leave the calm and ease we often find on the weekend?
It’s important to meet resistance with curiosity. I find resistance often shows up when working to shift a pattern of tension in the body/system.
When we realize the tension and resistance is there because it is what has been keeping us feeling safe, we also remember we can change it. Not with force but with gentle curiosity or, as Cesar Milan would say, “with calm confidence”.
I notice this in myself, in kids, with clients and in any relationship…even animals (check out the Dog Whisperer on Prime). Our bodies will even resist taking a deep breath or moving our breath from our chest to our belly or vice versa.…and since our breath is the regulation tool we have with us all the time, it’s important to develop a curious relationship with it. It’s literally the light switch for the nervous system.
We often need the support of someone to coregulate with to lead us there, in the beginning or as a reminder. Between the pandemic, flooding and general chaos, this is much of the work I do. I bring the calm confidence your nervous system needs to flip the switch.
