It’s Monday y’all…who else wants this beautiful weekend to last another day? Are you feeling resistant to leave the calm and ease we often find on the weekend?

It’s important to meet resistance with curiosity. I find resistance often shows up when working to shift a pattern of tension in the body/system.

When we realize the tension and resistance is there because it is what has been keeping us feeling safe, we also remember we can change it. Not with force but with gentle curiosity or, as Cesar Milan would say, “with calm confidence”.

I notice this in myself, in kids, with clients and in any relationship…even animals (check out the Dog Whisperer on Prime). Our bodies will even resist taking a deep breath or moving our breath from our chest to our belly or vice versa.…and since our breath is the regulation tool we have with us all the time, it’s important to develop a curious relationship with it. It’s literally the light switch for the nervous system.

We often need the support of someone to coregulate with to lead us there, in the beginning or as a reminder. Between the pandemic, flooding and general chaos, this is much of the work I do. I bring the calm confidence your nervous system needs to flip the switch.

Gratitude for tuning forks. Wish I had them years ago. Great tools for connecting with the body, which helps us get out of our heads.

It’s hard to connect and have meaningful conversation when we get stuck in the sympathetic nervous system….all the stress and division going on collectively has been keeping many of us stuck in that fight/flight/freeze/fawn place. It’s the part of us that makes quick decisions to protect us and keep us safe. We end up saying or doing things to people, sometimes to people we love, that we wouldn’t if we were in the parasympathetic part of our nervous system…..which is where we are at rest and able to digest things physically or emotionally. And for the people we don’t know or care about…..ouch, I’m observing very strong reactions based in fear and keeping ourselves/ideals/moralilty or people we love safe. Everything feels like a threat and/or we are waiting for the shoe to drop.

We all need ways to bring ourselves back to safety each day. There’s A LOT to digest and process emotionally in our personal lives and collectively.

We all have much more in common than we realize. When we hurt others we are also hurting ourselves, as we are all connected, all facets of creation each experiencing life from our individual perspectives.

We ALL need compassion, love, connection and acceptance to grow and learn. We need more bridge builders and less polarizing righteousness. We need common ground. Find something to feel joyful about and spread that s**t around in your home and in your community like it’s your job. Say something kind to the person ringing up your groceries. Check your hate and anger because it’s rippling through humanity and therefore our children and we need to stop feeding them hate soup.

If you are on my friends list, there is something beautiful in you that I can see. Not your physical beauty but your heart, your light. You matter and what you put into the collective field matters.🌸

If our focus is always on the stories of our past challenges, where is the space for us to be in our creative brilliance?

Having awareness and understanding of the past can help liberate us, but we need to be mindful of how long we allow ourselves to sit in the 💩 we can end up carrying this 💩 around…and often we will collect more along the way making it bigger and bigger. We may even start to believe it is the truth of who we are.

But when we look at it, see it for what it really is, take responsibility for our part in it, it can become something that happened and not a defining thing that holds us stuck in the dark, weighed down by the past.

Be mindful of what you place your attention on, it can/will grow. Remember that carbon under pressure turns into diamonds…..s**t turns into fertile compost providing nutrients for growth. This process takes various amounts of time to break down the intensity depending on what may grow from it….some plants will get burned and others flourish.

What potential is in the seed you are growing? What would happen if you placed your focus on growing that? Expand into something evermore brilliant and beautiful like a flower blossoming. We all need to do this.

Have you ever seen someone having a panic attack or had one yourself? I’ll share a few things to try that help state shift back into calm.

👯 If you are with someone experiencing one, you may be able to assist with suggesting some of these or perhaps offering your hands to hold, using verbal cues like, “give my hands a squeeze, feel the warmth or coolness”….its important to assess if touch is ok. Another option is standing or sitting back to back, breathing together, speaking in a low, calm voice. This is called co-regulation.

💦 Splash cool water on your face, back of the neck and the soft, fleshy side of joints (not your boney elbow or knee, the inner part), hands and feet

💨 Sit or lay down and inhale for 4 seconds, hold, then exhale for 6 seconds, hold and repeat….feel your breathe rise and fall with your hands on the belly and/or chest

🐜 Go outside if possible focus on: the texture of the ground your’re standing on, the colors that you see or watch an animal or insect, what you smell and/or hear

🙌🏼 Give yourself a gentle but firm hug, put gentle pressure on your legs and arms while doing yourur best to focus on sensation…you can also tap/pat your upper chest or your face

🕺Move…take a walk, do some stretching or jump/bounce in place, dance, shake out your arms

🎵 Music…whatever feels good to you, can be helpful to have a few different playlists ahead of time…from soothing/peacful to songs with strong base or perhaps an emotional quality that helps release some tears, you know which feels best and may need to switch it up.

You can practice these ahead of time to make these resources more available in the moment.

The moral of the story is, there’s more right with you than there is wrong with you.

The recent full moon in Leo has highlighted some things that don’t feel like that beautiful, radiant, summer bloom that we can all love and appreciate. It’s like the wind in Vermont today, a brisk, harsh gust, filled with icy particles, slapping you in the face and knocking you on your ass.

We’ve gotta start acknowledging that negative self talk that surfaces in times like this, and do what we can in the moment to flip the switch. Then we can move through some of the tension and anxiety we feel.

Remember the miracle you are!!
•look in the mirror and say something kind to yourself
•make yourself a warm soothing beverage
•turn on some music and draw yourself a bath

Give yourself the kindness you’ve always deserved and perhaps seldom received.
