The wall sit is a simple but powerful test of lower-body strength, endurance, and joint stability โ€” all essential for staying strong, steady, and independent as we age. ๐Ÿ’ช

Why Wall Sits Matter

A strong lower body helps with:
โœ”๏ธ Walking confidently
โœ”๏ธ Standing to cook or volunteer
โœ”๏ธ Climbing stairs safely
โœ”๏ธ Reducing fall risk and knee pain
โœ”๏ธ Everyday independence

Wall Sit Norms (How Do You Compare?)

General endurance benchmarks:

Beginner: 20โ€“45 seconds

Intermediate: 45โ€“60 seconds

Advanced: 60โ€“120 seconds

Elite: 2+ minutes ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ”ฅ

For active adults 40โ€“60, holding 1 minute is a solid indicator of lower-body endurance. For seniors 65+, a 30โ€“45 second hold shows great strength and functional capacity.

How To Do It Correctly

1๏ธโƒฃ Slide your back down the wall until your hips and knees make a 90ยฐ angle
2๏ธโƒฃ Keep heels under knees โ€” no cheating forward!
