Homeland at Home brings Homeland’s quality care and support to patients in the comfort of their own home.
Services include hospice care, home health, home care, and palliative care. What a day! Homeland Hospice’s 11th Annual 5K and Memory Walk was a beautiful mix of remembrance, community, and a whole lot of heart.
On October 4, 449 walkers, runners, volunteers, staff—and some very enthusiastic pups—came together at the Rossmoyne Business Center in Mechanicsburg for this special tradition. We laughed, we walked (or ran!), and most importantly, we honored the memory of loved ones while raising support for those receiving care today.
Homeland Center held a meaningful Flag-Raising Service in our 5th Street Garden to mark the replacement of our flag. The ceremony was led by students from the Nativity School of Harrisburg, who proudly conducted the service and presented the colors.
Special thanks to Todd Carver, Homeland Hospice Chaplain, who spearheads many of our veteran and patriotic activities and helped organize this touching event, along with Aleisha Arnold, Director of Activities. We’re grateful to Sergeant Steve Holmes and the Nativity Color Guard for joining our residents and staff in this moment of unity, remembrance, and pride.

For Registered Dietitian Meghan Sechler, mealtime at Homeland Center is about more than nutrition—it’s about connection. “They show me what a lifetime can amount to,” says Meghan. “They make me laugh all the time. You really build bonds with them. They almost become another set of grandparents.”
For Anna Leeland, working as a medical technician at Homeland Center is all about care and connection.
“I go the extra mile for the residents who need that encouragement to get up and get going,” says Anna. “I like to keep them motivated, so they don’t have things to worry about.” She has found that the smallest daily interactions can mean the most to residents and their families.
For Ellen and Bill Wismer, Homeland Center is more than a place to live—it’s truly home. “There are so many little things that make it home,” says Ellen. “You’re in a family setting. You get to know people, and they’re really friends.”
Surrounded by their own furnishings, family photos, and the support of caring staff, the Wismers have created a space that reflects both comfort and community.
The holidays are right around the corner, and they can be some of the most difficult times to deal with the loss of a loved one.
Join Homeland Hospice Bereavement Counselors Noelle Valentine, MSW, LSW and Alexis Conkle, MSW, LSW for our Coping with the Holidays Workshop to learn how to prepare a plan for the approaching season and find support during this time.
All are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be provided.
Registration is required by Nov. 10.
“I meet people where they are on their journey, and I assure them they are not alone.” – Chaplain Mark P. Harris
From his service as a Navy corpsman to his role as a spiritual counselor at Homeland Hospice, Mark’s life was dedicated to helping others navigate both the physical and spiritual challenges they face. Through his own personal struggles and growth, Mark learned that faith is not only for the good times but also for the stormy moments. His work continues to be a source of peace and comfort for those at the most difficult points of their lives.
Mark’s colleagues at Homeland Hospice deeply miss him and will always cherish the wisdom and compassion he shared with both patients and staff alike. His legacy of care, strength, and faith remains with us, guiding us every day.
For artist Kelly Charlesworth, every painting begins with a sense of place and the desire to capture a moment in time.
“It’s very addicting,” says Kelly. “You try it and then you don’t want to go back to the studio. You capture it on the scene, and you can look at it later and remember how you were feeling that day.” Her work, now on display at Homeland Center’s Community Art exhibit in partnership with the Art Association of Harrisburg exhibit series, brings the landscapes and history of central Pennsylvania to life.
TOMORROW is the day! We can't wait to welcome everyone to our 11th Annual Homeland Hospice 5K and Memory Walk.
Join us on Saturday, October 4 for a meaningful morning of community, connection, and remembrance—all while raising vital funds to support Homeland Hospice’s compassionate care services.
Not registered yet? No problem! Walk-up registration opens at 7:45 a.m. Come early, lace up your shoes, and be part of this special tradition.

Homeland at Home brings Homeland’s quality care and support to patients in the comfort of their own home. Services include compassionate end-of-life care provided by Homeland Hospice; daily non-medical assistance delivered by Homeland HomeCare; and at-home physician-ordered medical treatment provided by Homeland HomeHealth.
Our proud tradition of exceptional medical care began 150 years ago when Homeland Center (our bricks and mortar facility) opened its doors. Today, Homeland Center is a personal care home and skilled nursing center that provides a variety of services to the aging population of the greater Harrisburg area.
Homeland Hospice helps patients live as fully and comfortably as possible by providing symptom management; care services and therapies; spiritual support; and on-call support. We are the only hospice agency in Central Pennsylvania offering in-home relief to all patient families – because caregivers need care too.
Physician-ordered Homeland HomeHealth medical treatment helps patients heal and recover in the comfort and convenience of their own homes after illness or injury. Our focus promotes healing, recovery and quality of life.
Homeland HomeCare is delivered by our team of certified nursing assistants (personal care aides) who help seniors with companionship, hygiene, meals, transportation and more.
