Finding Light in the Winter Months

As the days grow shorter and the nights longer, it’s natural to feel your energy shift. Winter can be a time of quiet reflection — but it can also bring feelings of isolation, fatigue, or sadness. If you’ve been feeling a little heavier lately, please know: you’re not alone, and nothing is “wrong” with you.

This season invites us to slow down, rest, and care for ourselves in gentle ways.
✨ Stay connected, even if it’s just a quick call or message to someone you trust.
✨ Find small joys like a cozy blanket, a warm drink, a walk in crisp air.
✨ Remind yourself that just like nature, you are allowed to rest and renew.

Spring will come, but for now, it’s okay to embrace the stillness and nurture yourself right where you are.

🏔️ Feeling Overwhelmed? Try the DBT TIP Skill!

When emotions feel too intense to manage, your body may actually be in “overheating mode.” The TIP skill from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) helps you cool down fast, both physically and emotionally, so you can think more clearly.

T I P stands for:

🧊 T – Temperature
Change your body temperature to activate your calming system. Try filling a bowl with water and ice cubes. Dunk your face and hold for about 30 seconds. Repeating as needed.

🏃 I – Intense Exercise
Do a short burst of physical activity: jump, run in place, or do pushups for a minute or two. This helps burn off stress energy and calm your nervous system.

💨 P – Paced Breathing / Paired Muscle Relaxation
Slow your breathing. Try inhaling for 4 seconds, exhaling for 6. Pair that with relaxing your muscles as you exhale.

✨ These techniques change your body chemistry so your emotions can settle. When you’re calm, problem-solving and communication become easier.
