๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Feeling your mood shift with the seasons? It could be more than the โ€œwinter blues.โ€

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that follows a seasonal pattern โ€” most often starting in late fall or winter and improving in spring.

โœจ Common symptoms:
๐Ÿ˜ด Sleeping more than usual
๐Ÿž Craving carbs or gaining weight
๐Ÿ™ˆ Withdrawing from friends
๐Ÿ’ญ Feeling hopeless or low-energy

The good news? SAD is treatable. Light therapy, Vitamin D, and medications may be helpful.๐Ÿ’ก

If you notice these patterns returning each year, talk with your healthcare provider โ€” and donโ€™t wait until symptoms get worse.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our emergency medicine colleagues at UPMC Altoona after the recent act of violence in the emergency department.

Acts of aggression have no place in healthcare and no one should face danger at work. PACEP remains committed to advocating for the safety and well-being of all healthcare professionals. Together, we need to work towards finding solutions to care for patients, especially on their hardest days.

During our Day on the Hill, we had the honor of meeting with Secretary Bogen and policy experts at the PA Dept of Health. We discussed the importance of requiring emergency departments across Pennsylvania to be staffed by an on-site emergency physician, as well as the executive order pertaining to vaccines, updates on the opioid epidemic and access to free doses of naloxone.
