Today, our Lion's PRIDE (Peer Recovery Internship for Development & Empowerment) interns teamed up with Strength In Peers staff for the Community Connections event at the Navigation Center in Harrisonburg.

Hosted by our community partner, Open Doors, this event gave our interns the chance to step into leadership. They shared what they've learned, spoke about recovery and connected people to real support and resources.

We're proud of the confidence, growth, and heart they showed today. This is what peer support in action looks like. ❤️

We are SO proud of our Lion’s PRIDE interns! 🎉

Last week, our interns completed Action Planning for Prevention and Recovery (APPR) training. Over three days, they built their own recovery plans and learned how to support others using the APPR framework, including wellness tools, daily maintenance, stressors, warning signs, when things are getting worse, and crisis and post-crisis planning.

To complete the training, each intern then facilitated a section of APPR for the group—and they absolutely crushed it, earning their Certificates of Completion!

That’s a big deal.

They are now ready to support others with wellness planning and prevention strategies, showing confidence, growth, and leadership every step of the way.

And they’re just getting started! This month, our interns are heading into the field for hands-on learning at a medical respite home, a public housing site, a local jail, a homeless shelter, two resource centers, and a behavioral health clinic.

We are now accepting applications for our next Lion’s PRIDE (Peer Recovery Internship for Development and Empowerment) cohort, and 8 individuals will be selected to start on June 22. Please visit www.StrengthInPeers.org/employment
for eligibility and application details.

We can’t wait to see what they do next. 👏

There's nothing more powerful than lived experience being heard in rooms where decisions are made.

This week Megan Rohrbaugh, Program Manager at Strength In Peers, did exactly that -- speaking at the first Virginia Hepatitis C Elimination Conference to educate providers on what it's truly like to move through the system.

This is advocacy. This is courage. And this is how we do better.

Way to go Megan!
