Sunnyside Communities

Sunnyside Communities The Sunnyside campus is situated in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Residents here take in many galleries, shops, eateries and museums, often just a short stroll away.

Sunnyside Communities is a nonprofit senior living organization with three Virginia campuses, offering vibrant lifestyles, exceptional care, and a welcoming home for adults 55 and better for more than 110 years. Homes here have the breathtaking backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains and a direct view of Massanutten Peak. Sparkling ponds, gently rolling hills and beautiful gardens make Sunnyside a "little slice of heaven" for those who reside there. Summit Square in Waynesboro, Virginia is located right in the heart of this charming town, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Summit Square is best defined as "small town living, big city charm". King's Grant is a magnificent campus on over 120 acres of colorful gardens, blending gracefully into the natural beauty of the surrounding fields, lakes and streams. Located in historic Martinsville, Virginia, cottages and apartment homes are tastefully placed to enjoy panoramic views. King's Grant is a community "surrounded by beauty, defined by charm".

Today we celebrate the heart of what makes Sunnyside Communities so special. đź’›

On National Caregivers Day, we pause to recognize the nurses, CNAs, therapists, dining team members, housekeepers, life enrichment professionals, social workers, drivers, and every single person who shows up each day to care for our residents with skill and compassion.

At Sunnyside, King’s Grant, and Summit Square, caregiving is more than a job. It is a calling. It is early mornings and late nights. It is knowing someone’s favorite snack, noticing when something feels off, offering a steady hand, and sometimes just sitting quietly beside someone who needs company.

We are proud to partner with families and to bring care right to our residents’ doors, but it is our team members who make that promise real every single day.

If you see one of our caregivers today, tell them thank you. We certainly are.

From all of us at Sunnyside Communities, we are grateful beyond words.

The snow is mostly melted now (yay), but just a few weeks ago the lingering “concrete snow” gave one little skunk friend quite the adventure on the Sunnyside campus. He was slipping and sliding all around.

Thanks to Gayle Allen for capturing this adorable moment.

There are moments in life that do not announce themselves. They arrive quietly, disrupting routines and reshaping futures in a single breath. For a handful of Sunnyside Communities employees, the past year has brought such moments. A phone call in the middle of the night. A doctor’s report that alters the shape of a family. A financial burden that appears as quickly as it becomes impossible to prepare for.

These are not stories often told in public. Yet they are the very heartbeat of a community that has always understood care to mean something deeper than a line in a job description.

In May of 2024, Sunnyside Communities established the Employee Emergency Relief Fund. The fund serves as a modest but powerful gesture reflecting that understanding. The mission is simple: when a staff member faces a personal crisis, the fund steps in to help.

Today is National Safer Internet Day and we are feeling especially appreciative of the ways technology helps keep us connected across Sunnyside, Summit Square, and King’s Grant.

From video calls with family to online banking to sharing photos and stories, the internet can be a wonderful tool when it is used thoughtfully and safely. Today is a great reminder to pause, update passwords, watch out for suspicious emails or messages, and never hesitate to ask questions if something does not feel quite right.

At all three of our communities, learning never stops. We are proud to support residents and team members as they navigate technology with confidence, curiosity, and a healthy dose of caution.

Here is to staying connected, staying informed, and staying safe online today and every day.

Happy National Optimist Day. We are feeling pretty optimistic about life at Sunnyside Communities. And honestly, we have good reason.

Three communities. Full calendars. Great food. Neighbors who turn into friends. Staff who know your name and probably your coffee order. Fewer chores. More living. A lot less worrying about what is next.

We believe optimism looks like choosing a life that is easier, fuller, and more fun. If that makes us optimists, we are very comfortable with that label.

Punxsutawney Phil may have seen his shadow, but at Sunnyside Communities we say bring it on. Winters at King’s Grant, Summit Square, and Sunnyside are warmer than most, thanks to wonderful residents, caring staff, and a true sense of togetherness. Even in the coldest months, life stays full with indoor swims, shared meals, and card games with neighbors, all without ever needing to step outside.

We have seen so many posts about people feeling stuck at home because of the ice, and we truly hate to hear that. Winter weather can be stressful in all the wrong ways.

Here at Sunnyside Communities, our streets have been clear since the snow first started falling. That is thanks to an incredible team that shows up and goes above and beyond in rain, sleet, and snow.

That is the beauty of a Life Plan Community. No worrying about icy roads or cancelled plans. You just get to settle in, stay safe, and enjoy the view. ❄️
