After a season of loss and rehab, what started with uncertainty slowly became something more familiar.

Laura Evans, who serves on the VMRC Foundation Board and works closely with older adults through her legal practice, once walked alongside a client whose path eventually led to permanent residence at VMRC after time in Oak Lea’s short-term rehab. Moving into complete living care brought daily connection, friendly faces, and a sense of belonging. Over time, VMRC became home. Not simply a setting for care, but a place of community. 🌿🤝

VMRC celebrates the courage, compassion, and resilience of women who have shaped our world — in our communities, our families, and across generations.

From pioneers in ministry, science, and aviation to educators, caregivers, leaders, and volunteers, their influence continues to inspire us each day.

We are grateful for the remarkable women who are part of VMRC.

After years in the restaurant world, finding balance can feel out of reach, but at VMRC, our culinary team is proving otherwise. With supportive schedules, a welcoming culture, and time to enjoy life outside the kitchen, it’s no wonder team members are inviting their friends to join them. 🍳✨

Last Friday’s Voices of Peace Symposium, part of January’s Mennonite Heritage Month, was a meaningful day of learning, reflection, and connection. Five sessions explored how Mennonites have responded as peacemakers in different eras of conflict in our nation’s history.

We were grateful to have residents, staff members, community members, and students and teachers from local schools join us. The sessions were well attended, with strong participation and thoughtful engagement throughout the day.

While the majority of our residents and staff today are not part of the Mennonite tradition, the Mennonite ethos from which VMRC emerged in the mid-20th century continues to shape who we are as a community. Values of community, collaboration, stewardship, peacemaking, service, and belonging are widely embraced here and woven into daily life at VMRC.

Meet the dogs of VMRC! 🐾

These four-legged friends brought smiles, comfort, and plenty of tail wags to our community during VMRC’s dog show. From friendly visits to cozy lap time, it was a day full of joy for residents and pups alike. They’re an important part of life at VMRC. 💚

Age Well, Live Fully

Situated in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community (VMRC) is where retirement means doing what matters most: aging well and living fully. This philosophy guides everything we do at VMRC and it’s why we are continually innovating -- developing new ideas and better ways of doing things to meet the ever-changing needs of our residents.
