Happy Thanksgiving from The Academy on Main! 🦃 We are so grateful to have an amazing group of friends and family to celebrate the holiday with! Thank you to our staff and volunteers who served up a truly delicious feast today!! 😋 We have some talented cooks!! Thank you to all who attended lunch today, it has been so wonderful to get to spend this time together. We hope everyone has a safe, fun Thanksgiving!

We had a fantastic time at our Sleep Tight, Learn Right workshop this week! Thank you to the Mercer County Extension Office for hosting us and Mercer County FRYSC for partnering with us to plan this event! Children and Family Counseling staff and interns discussed the importance of a good nights sleep for children. Educationally, it’s one of the best habits we can instill in our kids, but we know that bedtime is a challenge for many families! Thank you to everyone who came out to learn ways to make our evenings peaceful and restful!

We had a wonderful time at The Opportunities for Prevention and Transformation Initiative (OPT-IN) Conference in Myrtle Beach last week! ☀️ Bailee Marcum attended as our CAFCA representative and we are so excited and honored to have been chosen to partner with The Cabinet for Health & Family Services on this powerful new program. It was wonderful to hear what other organizations in OPT-IN states (Oregon, South Carolina, and Washington DC) have learned along the way.

💙 We have begun serving Mercer, Boyle, and Garrard County as an OPT-IN Partner. We can’t wait to see how this program assists families in our communities!

Another great moment from yesterday! A special thank you to Bailee Marcum for teaching us this fun dance! What a perfect way to show off our Halloween costumes! 👻🎃 We hope everyone had a Happy Halloween!!

🎃 We had a wonderful Halloween party thanks to some incredible behind the scenes workers, Michelle, Kathy, Bea and Linda. CAFCA office staff are so helpful in making sure our clients feel valued and supported- from games, to decorations and treats! Also, our group got to meet a couple of our neighbors, and reacquaint themselves with others!

🍬 We went trick or treating around the block and had a great time thanks to some kind folks in our town. The Post Office, C&T, The Mercer Co. Sheriffs Office, City Hall (and water department), Whitenack and Souder, Lafondas, The Commonwealth Attorney’s office, Bad Apple Thrift, and Papa Smoke all were so kind and hospitable to us. 👻

We enjoyed getting to know the names and faces of people who live and work all around The Academy. We are thankful for such a supportive community, and look forward to growing our relationships and familiarity with these folks in the future!

UPDATE! Federal courts have ruled Trump administration must use contingency funds to pay at least some of November's SNAP benefits. USDA has until Monday to put a plan in place for distribution of benefits. Stay tuned for updates from official state channels as details emerge.
