Thank you, Senator Anwar, for honoring Bryana's memory 💜 We are incredibly grateful for your continued commitment to addressing domestic violence and ensuring that victims receive the care they need.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence or violence in the home there is support. You can call the statewide domestic violence hotline, 1-888-774-2900 (English); 1-844-831-9200 (Spanish). This will help connect you with programs that provide shelter for victims of domestic violence, as well as counseling and other supportive services. There’s also the National Domestic Violence Hotline which provides free, confidential, and compassionate support, crisis intervention information, education, and referral services in over 200 languages. You can call them at 1-800-799-7233, chat online at thehotline.org, or text START to 88788.

As we raise awareness about Domestic Violence, i am reminded of Jessica Edwards, who left us too soon because of domestic violence. A few years ago I was honored to join Interval House, and The Network to dedicate a bench honoring Jessica Edwards at the Boundless Playground at Nevers Park, South Windsor. This moment when Jessica's sons Jayden first touched the bench has been in our hearts and minds.

I am also reminded of Bryana Raye, one of our nurses in Connecticut, was was shot and killed in a domestic violence incident in January of 2025. Her mother was also critically injured and hospitalized in the attack. I had the opportunity to be in contact with her mom and learn about the challanges she faced. Sasa Harriott was kind enough to connect me with her.

Domestic Violence is real and help is available. In Connecticut, there is a statewide network of domestic violence programs that can be reached by calling the statewide domestic violence hotline, 1-888-774-2900 (English); 1-844-831-9200 (Spanish). The programs provide shelter for victims of domestic violence, as well as counseling and other supportive services.

Healing and recovery requires more than medication and nursing care. It takes food, energy, and strength.

That’s why our staff don’t just ask about your wounds or prescriptions. We ask what food is in the fridge and what your meals look like. If food is a barrier, we connect families to local community partners and support services to ensure nutrition doesn’t stand in the way of healing.

If you’re struggling with food insecurity while recovering or caring for a loved one, we’re here to help connect you to resources. You can also call 2-1-1 or visit 211ct.org to find information on food pantries, mobile pantries, and other support services near you.

Caregiving is not easy–whether you’re doing it alone, with others, or simply trying to juggle it along with other commitments. We’ve seen caregivers skip meals, miss their own doctor’s visits, and push themselves to exhaustion.

At Harriott Home Health Services, we care for everyone in the home, including caregivers. We ensure that they have the care, support, and resources they need to care for themselves and for others.

And if there isn’t a caregiver in the picture, we step in to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

It’s all part of our mission to ensure better health outcomes . . . for all.

One of the biggest barriers our patients face is transportation. Even when care comes to your home, you may still need to get to the pharmacy, the lab, or follow-up appointments. And if you don’t have access to reliable transportation, it becomes just another barrier to recovery and better health.

It’s why our nurses not only provide in-home medical care, but we also go the extra mile to pick up patients’ prescriptions. We also connect patients with the right support services to help get them to lab and follow-up appointments.

It’s all part of our commitment to not only providing care, but addressing the bigger picture to ensure patients achieve better health outcomes–now and in the future.

Where we come from shapes the way we care. ❤️🩺

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor the rich cultures, voices, and traditions of the Hispanic and Latino community. Many of the families we serve, and many of the caregivers on our team, bring lived experiences that guide the way we approach care with respect, compassion, and cultural understanding.

At Harriott Home Health Services, we believe care works best when it’s personal and when it honors language, family, and culture. This month, and every month, we celebrate the contributions of Hispanic and Latino nurses, caregivers, and families who make our communities stronger.

As the sun sets this evening, we join our Jewish neighbors in reflection and hope.

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is a time of deep reflection, forgiveness, and renewal. At Harriott Home Health Services, we recognize the sacred importance of this day for many in our community and extend wishes of peace, healing, and wholeness to all who observe.
