The room was filled with honesty, reflection, and powerful storytelling.

Our most recent Fatherhood Manologues at the Mark Twain House brought together an incredible group of women who shared deeply personal stories about being fathered. Each story offered a unique lens into the relationships that shape us—stories of love, strength, absence, growth, and the lasting influence fathers have in our lives.

For years, the Fatherhood Manologues has created space for people to reflect on the role fathers play in shaping identity, resilience, and family legacy. This special all-daughters cohort reminded us that fatherhood is not only about the men who are present in the room, but also about the impact fathers leave on the hearts and memories of their children.

These women stood on stage with courage, vulnerability, and purpose—sharing stories that made us laugh, reflect, and in some moments sit quietly with emotion. Their voices helped deepen the conversation about what fatherhood truly means.

A sincere thank you to every performer, supporter, and guest who joined us and helped make the afternoon so meaningful.

Take a moment to watch the recap video and experience a glimpse of the energy, storytelling, and connection that filled the room.

Fatherhood matters.
Stories matter.
Spaces like this matter.

In 1963, the Equal Pay Act made it illegal to pay women less than men for the same work.

It was a win for fairness, but the fight for equity continues. At My People, we honor every woman and every leader who has pushed for economic justice and opportunity for all.

Black, Brown, and women of all communities continue to show that progress is made when we demand it together.

Today marks 21 years of My People Clinical Services. For more than two decades the work has centered on community, care, and the people who make it possible every day.

To celebrate the milestone, our administrative staff stepped away from the office and shared lunch together at Anna’s Pizza & Restaurant. We also took a moment to celebrate the team members with March birthdays.

Twenty one years of service and still committed to the work ahead.

Maya Angelou reminds us that one woman’s courage lifts up the whole community.

At My People, we see this every day: when we support one another, when we advocate together, we create a stronger, freer, and more empowered community.

Every time we stand, we stand together.

Shirley Chisholm didn’t just make history, she opened doors for all of us. In 1968, she became the first Black woman elected to Congress, and just four years later, the first Black woman to run for President from a major party.

Unbought. Unbossed. Unapologetic. She challenged the system and showed that when women and communities of color step up, change happens.

At My People, we honor leaders like Shirley who pave the way for all of us.

Marcus Garvey emphasized the importance of knowing our history, culture, and identity as a foundation for progress. As a leader of the Pan-African movement, he encouraged Black communities around the world to take pride in their roots and build collective strength for the future.

His words remind us that understanding where we come from helps shape where we’re going.

📦 A big milestone for My People!

We recently completed the move out of our administrative office, packing up years of dedication, teamwork, and behind-the-scenes work that helped us serve our community. 💙

Every box carried memories of lives touched and support provided across Connecticut. While the space has changed, our mission remains the same: showing up for our people every single day.

Here’s to the next chapter of impact!

Alicia Garza is an organizer, writer, and co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement. What began as a call to action after the killing of Trayvon Martin grew into a global movement focused on affirming Black lives, confronting systemic racism, and demanding accountability.

Her work shows us that modern Black history is shaped by people who turn grief into purpose and organize communities for lasting change.

Black history isn’t just something we remember it’s something we’re living.

Our Story

My People Clinical Services (MPCS) is a mission driven, community based social service organization established in the city of Hartford, CT in 2005 to “Support, Empower, and Rebuild” the lives of individuals and families in the Greater Hartford area. As a collective group of culturally competent and diverse professionals consisting of social workers, marriage and family therapists, parent educators, therapeutic support specialists, and professional human service practitioners we aim to advocate, empower, and strengthen the lives of all families behind the mission “To enable My People to help Your People so that Our People will succeed”.

Recognizing the urgency of social and mental health needs of Hartford youth and families, our staff is recruited and trained to provide immediate therapeutic and crisis intervention support services to families. Our treatment services are non-traditional, creative and holistic which highlights several of the strengths of our staff that are dedicated to the wellness of our community. MPCS staffs are trained to advocate and empower youth and parents to overcome family disruptions, parenting deficits, negative effects of domestic violence, substance abuse recovery issues, and other barriers impacting independence, safety, and stability.
