In my practice, we often find unaddressed as something that is exacerbating or maintaining mental illness. tells us about how grief extends beyond the loss of a life. There is also grief related to:
- what we longed for and never received;
- our ancestors;
- the state of the world;
- ambiguous losses teaches about related to missing persons, chronic illness, pain, aging, or oppression and marginalization.
What we are learning is that grief doesn't actually end. We have to find the courage and strength to go into the depths and mystery, and to shepherd our grief into a transformation that ultimately deepens us, and makes us more resilient and wise. Our individualism has its merits, but it also makes it harder to do this - to be supported in the ways that organically existed when people lived in villages.
*I am starting a therapy group for grief in January. Please share with anyone who might benefit.* 🙏
