Hartford Hospital was recently selected as a recipient – one of only 75 nationwide – of the Special Pathogen Treatment, Assessment, and Network Development (STAND) Award, a $500,000 grant from the National Emerging Special Pathogens Training and Education Center, the nation’s leader in special pathogen preparedness and response.

This award will support efforts to expand access to specialized care and strengthen readiness through activities such as colleague training, equipment acquisition, and the development of systems for effective special pathogen care delivery.

Hartford Hospital recently received $100,000 in grant funding from the Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Violence Research and Education Awards – one of seven organizations nationwide – to prevent, treat, and heal firearm-related injuries and repercussions.

This grant will enhance the trauma-informed care provided to our community. Our Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP) team engages patients at the bedside following violent injury, offering services to address immediate safety, long-term recovery, and connection to community resources such as mental health care, housing, education, and legal advocacy for victims of gun violence, stabbings, assaults, and soon domestic violence and human trafficking.

When someone is brought to us in the aftermath of violence, healing must begin long before the first stitch or scan.

Through our Hospital Violence Intervention Program, we meet patients with more than clinical care...we meet them with humanity. Our teams create a safe, compassionate space where patients feel seen, heard, and supported during one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

This program brings trauma clinicians, social workers, behavioral health experts, spiritual care providers, and community partners together, all working as one. Not just to treat wounds, but to offer stability, connection, and dignity.

Violence may bring them through our doors, but compassion shapes what happens next.

Hartford Hospital was named a Top Teaching Hospital for a fifth year in a row by The Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog organization for health care safety and quality! Thank you, colleagues, for making this possible!

Only 73 hospitals in the country received the Top Teaching award this year. This award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive awards American hospitals can receive.

To qualify for the distinction, hospitals must rank top among peers on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest standards for quality and patient safety, and achieve top performance in their category.

Hartford Hospital proudly hosted Dignity Grows for its 6th annual Giving Thanks Pack on Nov. 30! The Giving Thanks Pack provides access to the hygeine products needed to participate fully in school, work, and community life. At the event, volunteers pack totes of supplies for a full month of essential items, advancing menstrual equity and dignity for all, which are then distributed throughout the year.

This year's event at Hartford Hospital drew 130 volunteers who packed 1,500 hygiene totes!

Dignity Grows is a Hartford-based national nonprofit dedicated to ending Period Poverty and hygiene inequality by providing access to menstrual and personal care products and supporting community-based solutions that advance equity and opportunity.
