Turns out I knew this in my intuition:

1. Being around trees reduces stress
* Time in forests lowers cortisol (stress hormone) and improves mood.
* It can also lower heart rate and blood pressure.

2. Trees release beneficial compounds
* Trees emit phytoncides (natural chemicals) that may:
* Support immune function
* Increase natural killer (NK) cells

3. Psychological & nervous system effects
* Touching or leaning on a tree can act as sensory grounding
* It helps shift attention, calm the nervous system, and improve mood

Scientists confirmed through comprehensive tissue mapping that approximately 90 percent of the body's total serotonin is produced by enterochromaffin cells lining the gut wall — not brain neurons — fundamentally reframing serotonin as a gut hormone communicating with the brain through the vagus nerve.

Researchers at Caltech mapped serotonin-producing cells across all human tissues in 240 donated organ samples. Gut enterochromaffin cells accounted for 89.6 percent of total body serotonin. Gut serotonin does not cross the blood-brain barrier directly but signals through the vagus nerve and blood platelet release at distant sites throughout the body.

The finding explains why gut health profoundly affects mood and anxiety — disrupting gut serotonin production through poor diet or antibiotics directly impairs the neurological signaling pathway regulating emotional state, making gut health central to mental wellbeing.

Mom truth: I thought sending my 4-year-old to play Legos would buy me 10 minutes to clean the stove. 😏

Solid plan.
Efficient.
Responsible.
Very adult of me.
While still allowing her to stay up late. Cool mom win. 😎

Thirty seconds later she gets fomo; walks over with the confidence of someone who has clearly just completed 4K leadership training. 🤓

“Mom… my teacher says teamwork makes cleaning go faster.” 🤝

Oh.

So preschool is offering management consulting now. 🤯

Next thing I know she’s:
• taking my paper towel
• assigning herself a job
• supervising the most caked on section of the stove top

Meanwhile I’m like:

“I swear this is not child labor.
Please don’t report me.” 😅

Mom truth:
You think you’re sending them to play Legos…

But sometimes they come back with
✨ teamwork lessons
✨ leadership skills
✨ and quality time win 🥹
✨ being taught to eat my words- be patient 🤣 cause totes thought I could do it faster alone
