Learning the concept of Yin and Yang can be quite complex and confusing. To put it simply, yin and yang is the concept of opposites: dark and light, cold and hot, slow and fast. This concept takes opposites even further - it explores how opposites are necessary for wholeness. You cannot understand one without the other. You cannot be whole without aspects of both. We live and grow in this middle ground; we cannot survive in only one area or in the extreme. Because of this idea, yin and yang has become synonymous with balance. We must learn to find balance between the two extremes of yin and yang.

I often explain to patients that the yin and yang in each of us is kind of like that air bubble found in the level tool. Our bodies are ultimately trying to find that middle, that center, that balance - to bring that tiny bubble center. It’s inevitable that the bubble will constantly move more to one side and then to the other. But with the help of nurturing foods, movement, and regular acupuncture, we can try our best to balance our bodies and find wholeness to ensure that our bodies work optimally.

You may be familiar with that feeling of extremely dry skin - the itching, the cracking, the uncomfortable scaling feeling. While the term “xeroderma” may sound a bit intimidating, xeroderma is just a medical term meaning “dry skin.”

So how can acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine help with a skin condition? Eastern medicine looks at the whole body and the skin is a way of revealing what is going on deeper in our bodies. How our skin reacts to certain triggers (internally or externally) provides practitioners with information. We gather all sort of information - from specifics about the location and characteristics of the skin issue to the diet the patient consumes, activity level, and even emotional triggers. Practitioners then create a treatment plan that addresses these symptoms, as well as underlying issues that may be adding to the initial concern. The treatment plan is individualized and created specifically for that patient. Adding Chinese herbal formulas to the treatment plan can assist and address the underlying issue more completely.

A Medical News Today article from 2021 writes that acupuncture assists in healing various health concerns because of its ability to stimulate several body systems like the nervous and immune systems, restoring balance and encouraging healing.
Acupuncture may improve skin health, restore the skin barrier, and alleviate discomfort in people with skin conditions because it stimulates blood flow, lowers inflammation and promotes healing.

IYKYK - the pain and discomfort that comes with UTIs. It’s a constant reminder that something is wrong or maybe it’s the feeling that you need to constantly p*e but nothing can alleviate the pain. Or maybe it’s a slight burning sensation that is just there.
While studying Chinese Herbal medicine, I was amazed with how many herbs are dedicated to assist with these symptoms. I have seen many patients come to me with constant UTIs that do not go away with antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals - for some reason, they just cannot get relief from the pain and the constant gyno visits show no notable signs of bacteria - so what can be done? Acupuncture and Chinese herbs to the rescue. Speak with a practitioner today to discuss your symptoms and to figure out how treatment can assist these symptoms.

Buzzing, ringing, clicking, roaring, or humming - these irritating sounds known as tinnitus - could be due to damage to the ear or auditory system. Tinnitus can be uncomfortable and extremely disruptive to your daily routine making it hard to concentrate, function or even sleep. Working alongside a healthcare provider, acupuncture may provide a positive complement to your healing journey. Studies have shown that regular acupuncture treatments (between 12-20 treatments in total) have shown to limit the discomfort and complications from tinnitus.
I have worked with a handful of patients who experience tinnitus regularly and they have found some relief from ongoing treatment. Contact me for more information and begin your healing journey today!

As January 2023 quickly comes to a close, I hope the resolutions and goals you have made that focus on health and new routines include acupuncture! Acupuncture is such an easy (and relaxing) way to enhance your quality of life. With weekly or even monthly sessions, your body’s ability to handle and manage stress can be addressed. Studies prove that these little needles can work with your blood and your body to release “happy” chemicals into the body and assist with our natural stress response.
There is a reason why Eastern medicine has been around for over 2000 years - it is incredibly amazing and helpful.

While breathing is involuntary, often we are so unaware of how we are actually breathing! How often do we take a moment to actually stop and take notice of our breath - the sp*ed and depth of it? Yes, it sounds weird to remind ourselves to breathe, but we all need a reminder every now and then!
As someone living with cystic fibrosis, I am constantly aware of my respiratory health. I spent years (years!) dealing with chronic respiratory infections - on and off major antibiotics that created more issues with my digestion and other systems. I would be dependent on my nebulizer to get me through serious scary moments. And then after I was finally able to breathe, I was left with the shaking and discomfort of all of the meds. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine has helped me in so many ways - but most importantly, it has allowed me to take control of my respiratory health and to deal with the ups and down of this condition. Yes, I will never get rid of my diagnosis - I have cystic fibrosis. My cells do not clear debris from my lungs the way they would in a healthy person. But acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine has helped me maintain my health so that I can function and deal with the acute infections and discomfort that may arise. I am always amazed with how this medicine works and how it can address so many concerns without the dependency on pharmaceuticals. I am pro-health. While I currently am not on any pharmaceuticals, I know that when I need them, I can turn to them. But until then, I turn to Eastern medicine.
Feel free to reach out to discuss how acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can help you breathe a little deeper and clearer today!
