Update:
Case does not have any permanent hearing loss at this time! With our second session the other day we were able to collect a brain wave response at four frequencies in each ear using bone conduction which routes around any middle ear issues. Because I have permanent hearing loss, as well as other family members, I wanted to double check this aspect. ļæ¼Great to rule this out!
He does in fact, have a middle ear issue, though, which I determined shortly after birth. Not too uncommon, but he seems to have fluid behind his eardrums or some Eustachian tube dysfunction ļæ¼which I was hoping to see clear up by now.
Since it hasnāt, our options are to consider some ear tubes or visit Dr. Renee M. Saverance, Chiropractor, our wonderful chiropractor. We will go for some chiropractic adjustments for a time and then we will reevaluate. Tubes at this age does require sedation and surgery so that is a factor families have to consider. ļæ¼
In the meantime, it appears that it is only creating a mild hearing loss at a few frequencies which should largely be allowing him to access speech and language for development. This was/is the biggest concern with hearing loss in babies! Although, the signal will sound somewhat degraded until it is all clear so we hope that will happen soon!ļæ¼
Thanks for coming along our journey with us! ļæ¼Blessings, Dr. Worley
