If you are looking here, Please note we no longer make grow lights. We could not get a dependable source of LEDs. None of them would last even 500 hours. That was several years ago so they may now last longer but still come from China and delivery is questionable. I keep the page up so you can find an accurate source of growing light information for your plants and the correct light frequencies as reported by tests on the international space station and NASA. LED LIGHT OUTPUT
Not all LEDs are created equal. While LEDs are usually listed in number of watts, this is only a rough estimate of how much light they put out. It is more an indication of the amount of power it takes to run them.
It does not indicate how much light it will put out. Lumens is the measurement used to determine light output. It can be converted to candlepower for another form of comparison. A white 3w LED, depending on who made it and how it was made can put out from 120 to over 300 lumens.
So to compare LEDs you need to know both how much electricity it will draw and how much light it will put out. However, even the least efficient LED will use half as much electricity to produce light as regular light bulb. A good 18w LED will put out as much light as a 75 watt incandescent bulb.
A good 30 watt LED spotlight can replace a standard 150 watt flood light. I replaced 2850 watts of regular light bulbs in our house with LED bulbs and now draw only 802 watts. This resulted in over a 2/3 reduction in the cost to run our lights. Not a 2/3 savings on our power bill, as lighting is only a part of the total electric cost.
When working with colored LED lights the output will vary even more, depending on the color chosen.
A 3 watt red led may put out 180 lumens. a blue 90 lumens and a green one 210 lumens.
