Space heaters account for 1/3 of home heating fires and 80% of heating fire deaths. Always use caution with them by keeping them at least three feet away from anything that can burn. 🔥

is just two weeks away! Thanksgiving is the #1 day for residential fires in Massachusetts. Most of these fires start in the kitchen, so remember fire safety as you plan out this year's meal. Keep your cooking area clear of anything that can burn, don't leave food cooking on the stovetop unattended, and put a lid on stovetop fires: https://ow.ly/3SQ550Q5HOg

20 years ago today, former Gov. Romney signed Nicole's Law, requiring alarms in all homes. The law was named for 7-year-old Nicole Garofalo, who tragically died after snow blocked a heating vent and trapped deadly CO inside her home. That terrible loss led to a statewide mandate that has undoubtedly saved other children's lives. Massachusetts firefighters report CO hazards at about 5,000 calls per year, most of them in homes -- PLEASE take a few minutes to be sure your CO alarms are working and your loved ones are protected.
