Meet Shania Braaten , LARC TEST’s certified technician in Minnesota. 🐎📊

Shania has been involved with horses for over 23 years, with her greatest passion rooted in barrel racing. As both a competitor and equine professional, her perspective is shaped by the horses she works with every day, including her own two mares.

Her interest in LARC TEST grew from its strong scientific foundation and its ability to provide meaningful insight into equine health, performance, and early signs that could lead to injury.

Injury prevention is at the core of her work, not only for her own horses, but for the riders and clients she supports across multiple disciplines.

“LARC gives me a way to better understand what’s happening inside the horse, so I can make more informed decisions to support soundness and long-term performance,” Shania shared. 🤝

As a certified LARC TEST technician, Shania is integrating testing into her equine bodywork business to help riders build programs that support longevity, recovery, and overall well-being.

As the weather warms and legging-up season begins, it can be tempting to pick up right where we left off. A gentle reminder that our horses’ bodies don’t bounce back overnight—especially those coming off recent injuries or extended time off.

Proper reintroduction to work is essential for rebuilding muscle, strengthening tendons, supporting healthy joints, and developing cardiac and lung capacity. Fitness should be developed gradually with a thoughtful program that allows bones and soft tissues—as well as the cardiovascular system—to adapt to increased demand. Rushing the process can undo months of progress and put your horse at risk for setbacks.

Take the time to start with correct foundational work, consistent warm-ups, and appropriate rest days. Your horse’s long-term soundness is built in these early weeks. If you’d like help creating a bodywork, stretch and exercise plan tailored to your horse’s history and goals, I’m always happy to help.
