Devil's Claw is a gnarly looking plant that has quite the reputation & can be found wild all throughout Oklahoma. The most useful part of the plant begins as a plump, juicy & bitter fruit which transforms into a symmetric dried seed pod with curled sharp "horns" at the end. The pod is shaped like a uterus, which is most interesting when considering the benefits it offers for women's cycles. If taken at the right time, the plant is known to altogether prevent powerful menstrual cramps & alleviate inflammation. It's "horns" work to attach itself to any animal walking by, in order that it may travel & seed again. This has bestowed it a symbolic significance of resilience & longevity.
To brew, bring a quart of water to a boil in a pot & add in 1 pod. Boil for 30 minutes, let cool & serve 1 cup daily, as a preventative or during acute symptoms. The herb has a subtle & earthy taste, add in a favorite tea blend with local honey for a better flavor.
Store the remains in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for a month to pull out when symptoms arise again. DO NOT take while pregnant. This plant DOES affect blood pressure. Devil's Claw shouldn't be taken by someone with blood sugar issues.
