The book addresses the global asylum crisis, the failings of the U.S. immigration system, LGBTQ+ persecution in Ghana, and the human cost of borders.

The book was published in 2020 by Melville House and has received attention for bringing a personal, humanizing perspective to the immigration debate.

Today, Tuesday, March 31st, is the International Transgender Day of Visibility.
Every year on March 31, the world observes Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) to raise awareness about transgender people. This day is for celebrating the lives and contributions of trans people, while also drawing attention to the disproportionate levels of poverty, discrimination, and violence the community faces. TDOV was created in 2010 by trans advocate Rachel Crandall, the head of Transgender Michigan. The goal was to respond to the overwhelming majority of media stories about transgender people being focused on violence. May we all work towards a world in which all people are celebrated for who they are. May we continue to widen the welcome for transgender people, while simultaneously acknowledging that due to discrimination, not every trans person can or wants to be visible.

Today we shine a spotlight on resources for parents of trans students. Thank you to our partner, PFLAG for your commitment to creating materials to curate spaces of belonging.

The Welcome Project PA is part of a coalition of LGBTQIA+
organizations collecting responses for the 2026 PA LGBTQIA+Health Survey.

🗣️We need you to speak up to make sure that the voice of our community is not silenced and is not erased. In a time when data about health, especially LGBTQIA+ health, is being erased from government websites, we need to take any opportunity to make sure we are seen and our story is told. Please take 20 minutes to add your voice to our story.

Our story is powerful – let’s write this one together.

Today is the last day of LGBTQ Health Awareness Week! 🌈
Let the voices of LGBTQIA+ Pennsylvanians be heard.
❤️‍🔥✍️We need YOU to take the 2026 PA LGBTQIA+ Health Survey so we can continue to advocate for the health of our community!
Take the survey now: bit.ly/2026lgbt or link-in-bio
(La encuesta también está disponible en español!) ☺️

Why should YOU take this survey ?
• It is completely anonymous.
• Other large-scale surveys do not collect data on sexual orientation and gender identity. • LGBTQ+ organizations across PA need this data to apply for grants and inform programming.
• The survey is supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and can be used by the community to support advocacy and research efforts.

🚨‼️ Share this info with your colleagues, friends, and your community members!!

✍Our health stories deserve to be counted—on our own terms.
✊🏿BIPOC LGBTQIA+ communities face unique health barriers that often go unseen.
This survey helps change that.
🌈Your voice = better advocacy, better resources, better care. We won’t be erased.
📊 Anonymous. Community-powered. PA-wide. Take the survey today: bit.ly/2026lgbt or click the link in our bio.
