It's no secret that turmeric is a superfood. For thousands of years, many cultures have been utilizing this unique spice in cooking and holistic medicines. There has been a lot of talk about the limited bioavailability (how easily an ingredient can absorb in the body) of Tumeric, but did you know that short cooking periods of 15 minutes or less can maximize bioavailability and overall effectiveness of turmeric?*
⠀
Use these two tips to maximize your Tumeric use:
⠀
Cook with healthy fats -- Curcuminoids are lipophilic and attach to fats. We can increase intake by mixing it with good quality, healthy fats like coconut oil and avocado oil.
⠀
Mix it with black pepper -- Most curcumin ingested will be metabolized before absorption due to digestive enzymes in the stomach, intestines, and liver. Piperine, a compound of black pepper, has been shown to make curcumin more bioavailable.
⠀
Some of us just don't have the time to worry about all of this, and that's okay. Here at Seven Nutrition, we specialize in making nutritional upkeep a breeze.
