Before It's Written In Stone
Something we should address for many of our friends and family, or perhaps yourself.
Do you live alone? Are your children more than 2 hours/states away from where you live?
Have all of your relatives passed away, and you have a limited network of friends?
If the answer to either of those questions is yes, please pay close attention to the following:
If death were to have happen unexpectedly last week, and no one checked on you for days, what would happen?
Sadly, it happens more often than you know.
When someone did arrived, they would call 911.
A police/sheriff's officer would be sent to assist. This type of death is called an "unattended death."
A funeral home would be called, perhaps Faith Funeral Home, Inc.. Our staff would respond once the emergency responders have completed their assessments; then you would be transported by our staff to the Medical Examiner's office for determining the cause of death.
You would stay until a next of kin was found. But who would they call? It could take days, weeks, or longer.
Someone will need to make final decisions on your behalf. These are a few examples: funeral home preference, type of services (if any), distribution of assets, care of fur babies (if any), and many more.
This is a serious situation that does not need to happen.
Taking a few minutes to write down a contact person and phone number who can help answer these hard questions, and placing it on your refrigerator or in your wallet behind your driver's license, can make sure the legal side of death can be handled properly.
For these reasons, our pre-planned families carry this card, so someone will know!
If not our firm, please take time to do it. Before It's Written In Stone
