❄️ EXTREME COLD ALERT — LACKAWAXEN, PA THIS WEEKEND ❄️

Heads up, Lackawaxen! Temperatures are expected to drop sharply this weekend, with highs in the single digits to teens and overnight lows below 0°F — plus strong wind chills making it feel much colder.

🌡️ Weekend Forecast Snapshot
Saturday: High ~10°F, lows around –2°F, wind chills potentially far below zero.
Sunday: Highs near 10–15°F, nights around 0°F, with continued bitter cold.

🧤 Why This Matters • Dangerous cold & wind chills can lead to frostbite in minutes.
• Frozen pipes are a real risk — water inside exposed pipes can freeze and burst.
• Power outages become more likely in extreme cold if demand spikes or equipment fails.

🚨 Stay Safe — What You Can Do

🏠 Inside Your Home
Protect pipes: Let faucets drip, open cabinet doors under sinks, and insulate exposed plumbing.
Keep heat consistent: Even a low steady heat helps prevent freezing.
Have backup heat/lighting ready (safely — never use grills/charcoal indoors).

🚗 If You Go Out
Dress in layers, cover your face & hands.
Keep your phone charged and let someone know your plan.

🆘 In Emergencies
Call 911 if you see:
• Signs of hypothermia (shivering, confusion)
• Signs of frostbite (numb, hard skin)
• Power outage issues posing immediate danger.

Please be safe and check on neighbors — especially elderly or vulnerable friends/family. 💙

We sadly have learned of at least one carbon monoxide death as a result of this snowstorm.

Please use generators safely. You want them at least 20 feet from your home. Never use them inside the garage.

If you suspect carbon monoxide poisoning, get into fresh air immediately and call 911.

We did it, Pennsylvania! We made it through most of this snow while keeping each other safe. 🙌👏

We aren't out of the woods just yet.

Here's what to expect:
🌧️ Snow and sleet Sunday night
🛣️ Dangerous roads
🥶 Extremely cold temperatures for the coming days

What to do now:
🏠 Stay inside and off the roads if you can
🧣 Bundle up in layers if going outside
🔥 Take lots of breaks to warm up if you do venture out
👋 Check on neighbors, especially older adults
⛔ Be careful with space heaters & don't use ovens for heat

If you have to travel:
🤳 Check 511pa.com to plan the safest route
🎒 Take supplies that would help if you got stuck
🐢 Go slow

❄️ Weather Update ❄️

Snow is now falling in our area and conditions may become slippery as the storm continues. Please use caution if you are traveling and allow extra time to get where you need to go.

Safety Tips:

Slow down and increase following distance when driving

Avoid unnecessary travel if possible

Watch for icy roads, especially on bridges, hills, and back roads

Wear proper footwear and use handrails when walking outside

Check on elderly neighbors and those with medical needs

Keep phones charged and flashlights accessible in case of power outages

Please remember to call 911 for true emergencies only (chest pain, difficulty breathing, serious injuries, uncontrolled bleeding, etc.). Weather-related delays may occur, but crews are responding as safely and quickly as possible.

As always, our crews are staffed and ready to respond. Stay safe, stay warm, and thank you for your continued support.
