Yesterday, the amazing team from LA Car Guy donated over 300 warm coats and winter clothes for Subaru + Operation Warm.

Kids are most confident when they are safe and comfortable, and Operation Warm makes high-quality warm clothing for children in need. Our Richstone families are able to stay warm in style thanks to our long-time supporters at LA Car Guy. With these warm clothes, the children can feel ready to take on each day.

Every year, we are fortunate enough to get this support, and our RFC families and children are so grateful! Thank you to

February is Teen Dating Violence Month. In 2006, following the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act in 2005, dozens of organizations called for an end to dating abuse, enacting the first “National Teen Dating Violence Prevention and Awareness Week.” In 2010, the month of February was officially dedicated to teen dating violence and prevention.

A healthy relationship can be complicated, and many teenagers struggle to find the social-emotional skills to cope. As a result, teenage relationships can result in unhealthy, toxic, and even abusive dynamics.

Some signs of unhealthy dynamics include: jealousy, unexpected instances of anger, a controlling partner, lying, pressuring a partner into doing something they do not want to do. If you notice this in your relationship or happening to someone you care about, contact a trusted adult.

If you are in need of immediate help, call 800-799-SAFE (7233). For more information on teen dating violence, visit teendvmonth.org.

On Saturday, the Partners in Philanthropy Program brought guest speaker Martha Hammer to share about her work with Shared Bread. She led our Richstone Families in a craft, creating Valentine’s Day themed placemats to decorate the tables at Shared Bread’s upcoming meals in February. Partners in Philanthropy is a wonderful opportunity for Richstone Families to bond over breakfast and collaborate to give back to the community.

Shared Bread is a community outreach program from the First United Methodist Church in Redondo Beach. Each Wednesday, they provide a warm, home-cooked meal for those in need. In addition to nutritious meals, Shared Bread also provides clothing, hygiene items, healthcare, substance use support, and more. To learn more about Shared Bread, visit sharedbread.org.

This week, Tasha from Art at Your Fingertips led our students in a painting activity inspired by Jean Michel Basquiat. Using a bold style, symbols, and words, the students created fun dinosaur paintings to express themselves.

Art at Your Fingertips is based out of the Palos Verdes Art Center, and brings arts education to elementary school classrooms. Our students always have so much fun learning about art history and new artists and getting to be creative with each other! Thank you to our volunteers who lead and facilitate the program each month.

Food Initiative is back at Kids Club! South Bay Food Initiative is an organization that works to combat hunger and food insecurity, while educating on healthy eating and nutrition.

Last week, our Food Initiative volunteers from Mira Costa High School gave a lesson to our students about eating to energize themselves for exercise. They reminded everyone that food is fuel! A car needs gas to drive, and our students need nutritious food to have fun with their friends.

Thank you to Food Initiative for helping our students learn these important lessons. Our students are so lucky to have great programming every day after school.

Fashion Club is back! Led by Rachel, a Mira Costa High School student, the Kids Club students design and decorate their own clothing and accessories.

Last week, the students made mood boards to brainstorm colors, shapes, and designs they want to use in their designs this year. Some of their inspirations included flowers, nature, hearts, and more. We can’t wait to see what they make! 👗👚

In 2025, the Richstone Family Center was fortunate to get donations of items that we could share with our community. Including winter clothes, backpacks, school supplies, and groceries, we were able to provide our families with items they needed during the holidays, back to school, and more.

Thank you to everyone who supported our community and helped them be prepared for important moments. We are grateful to receive so much love and to share it with those who need it most.

Happy New Year! To start 2026 off on the right foot, our Parents as Teachers Program participants created vision boards with their families. Using magazines, our parents and children were able to imagine their goals and hopes for the new year.

The Parents as Teachers Program is an educational program for parents and caregivers to strengthen their skills in child development. Through constructive conversations and helpful lessons, the goal of PAT is to support caregivers in helping their children reach their full potential.

We can’t wait to see what the new year will bring for our amazing RFC families. To learn more about PAT and support the program, visit richstonefamily.org

Thank you for an amazing 2025! We made so many fun memories this year, and we can’t wait for more.

We are grateful for everyone who makes our work possible. From donors to staff to volunteers, we couldn’t do our vital work without you. Check out some of our highlights from this year!

Our Kids’ Club students enjoyed time learning and playing together, especially during the summer at our Summer Camp! 📚We danced the night away at our annual Beach Party fundraiser. 💃Our students made art with Art At Your Fingertips. 🎨To close out the year, we had our Thanksgiving food drive and Christmas Holiday Party. 🦃🎄These are just a few of our favorite moments from 2025. Cheers to more in 2026!

OUR HISTORY

The Richstone Family Center was incorporated as a non-profit social services agency in 1974. In 1977, the State of California awarded Richstone a grant as one of the first of 6 child abuse treatment and prevention programs in the state. With this grant Richstone Center was established as a comprehensive agency providing services to approximately 70 families a year. In 1980, Richstone was recognized as a neighborhood family center by ICAN (Los Angeles County Inter-agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect). Since that time, Richstone has expanded its staff from six to more than 135, increased the number of programs offered; expanded the area of service from Hawthorne to include the southwest corner of Los Angeles County and the Greater South Bay; increased the number of sites offering services to include six school districts, opened a Transitional Living facility and a satellite office in Torrance. Richstone offers services for children from birth to 18 and for parents in their teens to grandparents in their sixties. Throughout this period of rapid growth, Richstone invested 83%-90% of all revenue to directly serve the highest need communities.
