Big news for the gym - beginning today, the new owner is awesome guy Ben Doshier! I'll be helping out through the transition, but this is great news for the gym! Ben has great plans for much needed upgrades and as I have been too busy at my new job this past year to keep up with the gym, it will be getting the love it deserves. Congrats, Ben, you're gonna be great at this!
Y'all can reach Ben at 739-2565

Since this is something that comes up over and over and over again...

Do you want to lose weight really fast?

Like... super mega ultra lightning fast?!?

As in, maybe... 10 pounds lost in a week?

If so, THAT'S TOTALLY DOABLE and COMPLETELY REALISTIC!!!

Unless, of course, you want that weight to be body fat.

Because that s**t ain't happening.

👉 Killer Outfits For The Gym

12/19/2018

People that are trying to lose fat often look towards "increasing their metabolism" as an approach to making it happen.

This is lovely, except for one tiny thing...

Outside of increasing exercise or non-exercise activity, there isn't really anything you can do that's going to make a significant difference to your metabolic rate.

I mean, sure, eating more protein will increase TEF (the Thermic Effect of Food), which helps a little. But with TEF in general, we're talking about a factor that typically accounts for just 10% of a person's overall metabolic rate. So, the benefits here are going to be minor at best.

And yup, building muscle helps too, as muscle is more metabolically active than body fat. However, the difference is surprisingly small. How small? Well, 1 pound of fat burns 2 calories per day at rest, and 1 pound of muscle burns a whopping 6 whole calories! So yeah, every little bit helps, but again... the benefits are minor.

And then there's the 100 other "metabolic boosting tricks" people will try, which range from laughably insignificant, to dangerous, to complete bulls**t.

One such example of the former is eating hot chili peppers.

Can doing so actually speed up your metabolism?

Yup.

But does it do so to a degree that actually matters?

Nope.

Research shows it may increase your metabolic rate by about 10 calories per day.

Yawn.
