Let's start the week off right with a huge CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU to all our students and their families who came out to celebrate their successes on Badge Night!

The US Pony Club Adaptive Badge Program gives all our students an opportunity to learn horsemanship skills at their own pace and to their capabilities. We are so proud of every single one of them for rising to the challenge!

Thanks also to all our Volunteers who came out to support our students; each of our volunteers (whether they're horse leaders or side walkers who physically and emotionally support our students) is an integral part of their Rainbow team and we couldn't do it without them!

Tonight's the night! Our students will be celebrated from 6pm-7pm as we host our Fall Badge Awards Ceremony here at the barn. As part of our US Pony Club Adaptive Badge Program, our students have been focusing this session on their steering skills, while newer students work on their core equine management skills like grooming and tacking up. We hope to see all our families here to celebrate!

Let's go 'Behind the Barn Door' with someone who literally spends a lot of their time in the barn, as Equine Manager is one of her job titles!

Marissa wears many hats at Rainbow and you could’ve come across her in one of her many roles; as Operations Director, she handles Equine Management and Volunteer Coordination.

She has a long history with horses: she began riding at the age of five and began showing in local hunters as a teenage; after getting married, she took a few year sabbatical from the horse world but began volunteering at Rainbow in 2018 as a reintroduction and has never looked back! Her role as mom to a son, Logan, who on the autism spectrum also gives her a special insight into the significance and benefits of equine assisted activities.

Every day, Marissa juggles an ever changing volunteer schedule, factoring in lesson changes, horse suitability, weather issues, volunteer availability, and unexpected issues like power or water outages! She also identifies and trains ALL our volunteers, ensuring we have the best team in the ring at all times. Her role as Equine Manager is vitally important in keeping our herd happy and healthy, from scheduling routine vet checks and vaccines, identifying potential lameness or other medical issues, to keeping them all in good working order with regular training and play time as needed.

And if that wasn’t enough, in directing operations at the barn, Marissa keeps things ticking over: ever wondered why we never run out of horse feed and cleaning equipment? She even has time to decorate the viewing area as the seasons change.

When she’s not working (when is that?!?) she loves spending time at home doing DIY with her husband, Nick, son, Logan, and dog, Roger (also a popular fixture at Rainbow).

Rainbow is always grateful to generous donors who support us year after year and today we once again offer heartfelt thanks to the Giving Circle of Heritage Hunt, Gainesville. Their recent grant allows us to provide five students with one semester of lessons which will help them overcome some of their physical, mental health, or emotional challenges. Congratulations too to the other amazing charities who also received a grant. Thank you once again, Giving Circle of Heritage Hunt!
