Hays Medical Center HaysMed is a 200+ bed hospital providing the only tertiary-level services in the region.

As the premier provider in western Kansas for specialized care, HaysMed offers a wide variety of specialty programs. Hays Medical Center is a private, not-for-profit hospital formed by the 1991 merger of two religiously affiliated facilities, and provides the only tertiary level services in the region. The organization's Vision Statement, developed collaboratively with local and regional physicians, hospital administrators and community board representatives, was refined to a single core purpose: "To Help People Be Healthy," and an overriding goal: "To Be the Best Tertiary Care Center in Rural America."

HaysMed is excited to welcome board-certified physician, Derek Peckham, DO, who joined our Emergency Department team in September. Dr. Peckham joins a highly skilled team in our 13-bed Emergency Department, staffed 24/7 to provide expert, compassionate care when it matters most.

🎉 Big congratulations to Breanna Kantz, HaysMed Occupational Therapist, for earning her Therapeutic Pain Specialist Certification, a tool that enhances HaysMed’s approach to pain management and recovery!

Breanna helps patients regain confidence in their daily routines by combining pain management techniques with essential self-care activities such as toileting, bathing, dressing, and safely getting in and out of the shower.

At HaysMed, we're committed to raising awareness and saving lives. This World Stroke Day, take a moment to learn the BE FAST method, a simple way to recognize the signs of a stroke quickly:

B – Balance: Sudden loss of balance
E – Eyes: Sudden vision changes
F – Face: Facial drooping
A – Arms: Arm weakness
S – Speech: Slurred or strange speech
T – Time: Time to call 911!

Knowing these signs could make all the difference. Be informed. Be prepared. BE FAST. The American Heart Association shares five key facts about strokes that everyone should know. Take a moment to learn and share, awareness makes a difference.
