We learned over the weekend of the passing of a valued employee and member of the La Familia community, Mohammad Ibrahim Amini. This loss has been deeply felt across our organization and the broader community.

What has been especially meaningful is the outpouring of support from colleagues, community members, and individuals whose lives were touched by his kindness, leadership, and commitment to supporting refugees and those he served. Even those who did not know him personally have shared their respect, prayers, and solidarity in his memory.

He dedicated nearly nine years of service to La Familia and served as a supervisor for the VESL program for the past several years. He was widely regarded not only as a leader, but as a brother- kind, supportive, and deeply committed to his team and the communities we serve. His impact will be lasting.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts are with them and with all who are grieving this loss. He will be deeply missed.

As we welcome the New Year, all of us at La Familia want to wish our supporters, partners, and community a happy, healthy, and safe year ahead.

A new year brings new beginnings and a reminder that caring for our mental health is just as important as caring for our physical well-being. As we move forward together, may we give ourselves grace, seek support when needed, and continue breaking the stigma around mental health in our community.

Thank you for standing with us and helping make healing and hope possible. Here’s to a year of wellness, connection, and community.

Dr. Roberto Vargas reflects on a time when mental health carried deep stigma in our communities, and when many didn’t know what support could truly look like.

From the beginning, La Familia was built on the belief that healing starts with understanding. That meant reaching out, educating our community, and providing culturally competent services rooted in respect, lived experience, and connection.

Decades later, that commitment remains at the heart of everything we do because our community deserves care that truly sees and understands them.

✨🎄 Happy Holidays from La Familia & FESCO! 🎄✨

This Christmas Eve, we are filled with gratitude as we reflect on 50 years strong of growth, service, and community care.

What began as a grassroots vision has expanded across regions thanks to the incredible support of our community, partners, and families who have walked alongside us every step of the way.

Together with our sister organization FESCO and La Familia Central Valley, we are proud to continue advancing housing stability, mental health services, and whole-family support, meeting people where they are and building pathways to hope and healing.

As we celebrate this season of togetherness, we thank everyone who has believed in our mission and helped our Familia grow. Wishing you peace, joy, and warmth this holiday season and into the New Year. 💚✨

For Us, By Us. ✊🏽

Co-founder Dr. Roberto Vargas understood the importance of culturally relatability when La Familia was founded and how it made the world of difference when navigating counseling services for our community.

50 years later, we still hold this value true and proudly as we make sure that our clients feel seen and heard in their stories as they learn the tools and skills to build resilience in their lives.

In the 1970s, Dr. Roberto Vargas helped lay the foundation for La Familia by recognizing a vital truth: our community needed Chicano and Latino therapists who could truly understand our lived experiences.

Fifty years later, that same commitment to culturally rooted care continues to guide our work. 🧡💚

What began as a response to a need has grown into a lasting legacy of healing, connection, and hope for generations.

From client to leader. 💪

Director of Community Outreach, Claudia Del Rio, shares a full-circle moment; when she was a young girl, she was referred to La Familia for therapy. Today, she stands with us helping guide the very community that once lifted her.

As we celebrate 50 years of culturally rooted, community-centered mental health services, stories like hers in having services accessible to our communities, is a powerful reminder of why keeping these programs alive matters. Generations have accessed support, healing, and hope, and with your continued partnership, many more will too.

Here’s to honoring our past, investing in our future, and building a stronger, healthier community together.

Agustin Arteaga Jr. serves as Board Chair of La Familia, bringing leadership and a strong commitment to community-centered service. He holds a Master’s in Public Administration with an emphasis in Health Care Administration and works as a Public Works Coordinator at AT&T.

Agustin speaks about how, for 50 years, La Familia has been rooted in culturally competent mental health care and has grown into so much more.

As we honor this legacy in our mini-documentary Rooted In Hope, we’re also looking ahead, building stronger, healthier neighborhoods for the next generation.

Your support helps shape that future.

Here’s to 50 more! 🙌

We were so honored to be able to hold space with each other this last Friday, as we came together for our annual all-staff holiday party.

This time around, we honored the 50 years that La Familia has been serving the community as we paid tribute to our past and honoring our future.

Thank you, La Familia team, for everything you have done in living our values through your important work.
