Health Tip:Studies show strength training can help treat depression, even as well as some medications. Use light weights (start with 1 to 3 lbs) and lift slowly and precisely to improve tone and make muscles stronger—stronger muscles use less effort than weaker muscles, which may leave them less fatigued.

Health Tip:Chronic mental and emotional stress, both of which can lead to depression, are eased by massage, so it's hardly a surprise that a number of studies conclude that massage therapy helps lift the blues. And what a great treat for yourself or others during the hectic holiday season!

Monday HEALTH TIP : As Winter approaches and the sunny days fade away, many people notice a change in their moods and experience feelings of sadness, grief and depression associated with Seasonal Affected Disorder (SAD). To counteract the effects of less sunlight be sure catch some sunlight each day, take a quality fish oil supplement and extra vitamin D. You might also consider spending some time under a sun lamp, especially if you live in the northern states where sunlight can be sparse!

HEALTH TIP On A Better Night's Sleep: Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle. Melatonin production is controlled by light exposure. So to increase light exposure during the day, remove your sunglasses in the morning and let light onto your face, spend more time outside during daylight, and try to let more sunlight/natural light into your workspace. At night, turn the t.v./computer off to sleep, and keep your room as dark as possible. The darker it is, the better you’ll sleep and will aid in boosting your melantonin production at night!

HEALTH TIP : Starve a cold and feed a fever/flu? This is likely a common myth, as there is no conclusive evidence for withholding or increasing food or drink intake to reduce the symptoms or duration of a cold. The body needs adequate nutrition and fluids (between 9-13 cups of water per day), especially during stress, to maintain body functions. So stay hydrated, and eat healthier foods such as whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables to cure your cold!

HEALTH TIP : Studies have shown that while eggs have a very high level of cholesterol they actually aren’t bad for your heart. (In one test, only patients with diabetes were more at risk of heart disease after eating a diet of eggs, and in particular egg yolks, which contain all of the cholesterol in an egg.) Eggs also appear to have much more vitamin D than previously thought (vitamin D being the super-nutrient of the year, touted for everything from improving memory to building bone density) and eggs also have a tremendous amount of nutrients. So many, in fact, that researchers are now saying that eggs may actually help to prevent heart disease and cancer!

Health Tip:In one study, peanut and peanut-butter snackers actually had a lower body mass index, a measure of obesity, and lower cholesterol intake than those who didn't eat peanuts. Peanuts also contain beta-sitosterol, a plant chemical that blocks cholesterol absorption from foods and appears to inhibit tumor growth in the colon, prostate, and breast.

Health Tip:One of the best ways to get vitamin A into your diet is from foods containing beta-carotene like sweet potatoes, which your body turns into vitamin A.

Health Tip:Egg yolks are home to tons of essential but hard-to-get nutrients, including choline, which is linked to lower rates of breast cancer (one yolk supplies 25% of your daily need) and antioxidants that may help prevent macular degeneration and cataracts.
