Friday we celebrated Maintenance Appreciation Day and recognized the incredible work our Sr. Maintenance Director, Bruce Johnston, does every day to keep our home safe, comfortable, and running each and every day.

From fixing what’s broken, to preventing problems before they happen, Bruce plays a vital role in the daily lives of both our residents and staff. Whether it’s repairing equipment, setting up for activities and events, keeping our building beautiful, or responding quickly when something needs attention, Bruce is always there with a helping hand. Bruce is known to go above and beyond. There is not a day when in the building that he is not seen in the hallways passing trays or helping in the dining room.

Our residents and staff are so grateful for the dedication, hard work, and care Bruce brings to our facility each day. He helps make this place truly feel like home.
Thank you for everything you do — we appreciate you!

Yesterday we took time to celebrate all of incredible team members that make our community feel like home.

Our staff enjoyed yummy treats, Coops Pizza for lunch, and a small gift basket of self care items raffled off for each shift. From nursing to housekeeping, dietary to activities, therapy to maintenance-every team member plays an important role in caring for our residents each day.

We are so grateful for the compassion, dedication, and hard work our staff bring to our residents and to one another. Thank you for going above and beyond and for making a difference every single day. We appreciate each and every one of you!

Things heated up in the best way during our Fourth Annual Chili Cook-Off this past week, where our talented staff brought their best recipes to the table!

From mild and savory to bold and spicy, our team cooked up a delicious variety of homemade chilis for everyone to enjoy. Participants in the Chili Cook-Off included: Bruce Johnston, Sr. Maintenance Director; Kim Bavis, Life Enrichment Specialist; Tina Johnson, Registered Nurse; Brooke McElfresh, Medical Records; and not pictured Lee Ann Kritch, Business Office Manager

Residents and staff sampled each pot and had a great time comparing flavors and discussing favorites.

Everyone cast their vote for their favorite. Congratulations to our top chili creator, the one who took home the golden kidney beans, Bruce Johnston.

Shining a spotlight this week on two of our amazing Life Enrichment staff: Kim Bavis, Life Enrichment Specialist, and Heather Andrews, Life Enrichment Coordinator. They showed up this past Friday in style with their matching "activities squad" shirts.

Just as the words on that shirt spotlight, our Activities Squad brings energy, creativity, and joy to our residents every single day. From games and crafts to special events and holiday fun, they’re the heart of resident engagement and togetherness in our building.

We appreciate everything our Activities Squad does to make life brighter, fuller, and more meaningful for our residents, which also includes members Corky Ulrich and Brittany Jarvis.

Our residents brought the competitive spirit to this year’s Winter Olympics!

🥇 Game 1: Stack the Snowballs
Residents raced to build the tallest snowball towers. Some stood tall… others toppled fast… but every attempt was full of fun!

🥈 Game 2: Scoop the Snow
Steady hands and quick scoops was the move as residents raced to transfer “snow” from bowl to bowl.

🥉 Game 3: Move the Ice
Our final challenge put coordination to the test as participants moved “ice blocks” from station to station with determination and big smiles.

🏅 Medal Ceremony
We wrapped up the games with a special Medal Ceremony, celebrating our top scorers and applauding every resident who participated. Every Olympian received recognition for their enthusiasm and winter spirit.

The fun and friendly competition made this a winter day to remember at Hayward Health Services. ❄️💙

Congratulations to all our resident Winter Olympians! 🏅

Last week, our residents enjoyed a warm and delicious fry bread activity that brought smiles, stories, and the smell of fresh dough throughout the building!

Residents rolled, shaped, and watched their golden fry bread cook to perfection - and of course, the best part was topping it with cinnamon sugar, or savoring it plain and warm.

Our staff loved seeing residents reminisce about family recipes, share cultural traditions, and enjoy the simple joy of making something homemade together.

Our building was filled with kindness and celebration this Valentine’s season! We were grateful to welcome the Mennonite Youth Group, who visited our residents with beautiful hand-delivered flowers. Their generosity brought so many smiles and love.

Residents also gathered for a sweet and festive activity - frosting Valentine sugar cookies. With colorful icing, sprinkles, and lots of creativity, residents enjoyed decorating (and tasting) their delicious treats.

We are thankful for our community partners and our amazing staff for helping make this Valentine’s Day feel extra special.

Time for another wonderful edition of "Heroes of our Home," featuring resident Caroline and staff member Sajeetha.

Resident Spotlight - Caroline Long

Since joining our community in October 2025, Caroline has brought a gentle, steady presence to our community. Naturally a bit reserved, she took her time getting to know others - but once comfortable, her warmth truly shined and her smile was contagious.

Caroline enjoys conversation with others and can often be found sharing quiet moments with fellow residents and staff. Even with her soft spoken nature, she values connection and has gradually become an active part of our community. Her friendly smile and overall demeanor create a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere wherever she goes.

Staff Spotlight – Registered Nurse Sajeetha Babu

A dedicated member of our team since 2015, Sajeetha embodies compassion, professionalism, and heart. She is known for being an exceptional advocate for residents, always ensuring needs are heard and care is personalized. It’s common to find her spending extra time at the bedside - listening, supporting, and helping residents feel truly at home. She creates comfort, trust, and a sense of belonging for everyone she serves.

Together, Caroline and Sajeetha reflect what makes our community special: genuine connection, kindness, and a shared commitment to making our home feel like family.
