Perry County Ambulance Authority is seeking applications for the position of Community Behavioral Health Specialist. In this essential role, you will work side-by-side with EMS crews to provide immediate support and crisis intervention to individuals experiencing mental health crises. You will collaborate with EMS teams to assess needs, de-escalate crises, connect individuals to resources, and follow up to ensure ongoing support. Your work will play a vital role in improving outcomes for individuals in crisis within Perry County, promoting long-term well-being and community resilience.

Day-to-day duties include responding to calls for behavioral health emergencies, conducting on-site assessments, developing safety plans, and coordinating with local mental health providers and social services. You will also provide education and resources for families, participate in community outreach efforts, and document care provided to ensure continuity of service.

Requirements include Peer support specialist & valid KY driver’s license.

Now hiring a Community Behavioral Health Specialist.

GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direction of the EMS director, develop, implement and maintain our Mental Health Mobile Crisis Response Team (MHMCRT). As part of the MHMCRT this position responds to individuals in crisis and provides resources and support to those in need.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Responds to emergency calls alongside EMS personnel and other team members and provides immediate support and crisis intervention to individuals experiencing mental health crisis.
•Conduct comprehensive assessments of individuals in crisis, assessing their mental health needs, risk factors, and safety concerns.
•Collaborate with the team to formulate appropriate intervention strategies. Identify and facilitate access to community resources, social services, and mental health resources that can aid individuals and families in crisis. Provide appropriate referrals to external agencies when necessary.
•Develop and implement crisis management plans in collaboration with the individual in crisis, their families, and other stakeholders involved in their care.
•Provide ongoing support during and after crisis to ensure the individuals’ safety and wellbeing. Maintain accurate and up to date records of all interactions, assessments, interventions, and referrals made.
•Prepares necessary documentation and forms in a timely manner adhering to all legal and ethical guidelines.
•Collaborate with EMS personnel, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, community mental health organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination care for individuals in crisis.
•Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and trainings as required.
•Participate in community outreach programs, educational initiatives, and awareness campaigns to promote mental health wellness, crisis prevention, and early intervention.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
Bachelor’s degree in social work or other related field. Experience in crisis response and assisting individuals in acute crisis preferred.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/LICENSE AND SKILLS
•Valid driver’s license
•Valid license to practice social work in the state of Kentucky
•Must be able to operate service vehicles in a safe, prudent, and responsible manner
•EMT license takes preference.
