Thank you, Mrs. Kaitlyn and Mrs. Kailyn, for representing Viper Elementary as Kindergarten Readiness Spotlight Speakers!
Viper Elementary was proud to be featured as spotlight speakers at the Perry County Community Collaborative on Friday, March 13th! đź’šđź–¤
Our very own Kailyn Coots, former preschool teacher, and Kaitlyn Fugate, current kindergarten teacher, did an outstanding job sharing the incredible progress our students have made in Kindergarten Readiness.
In just a few short years, our readiness scores have soared—from 18% in 2021–2022 to an impressive 52% in 2024–2025, based on Brigance data! This growth is a powerful reminder of what is possible when a school, families, and community partners come together with a shared purpose.
This success didn’t happen by accident—it was built through:
➡️ Intentional collaboration between preschool and kindergarten teachers.
➡️ A focused effort on readiness skills.
➡️ Strong preparation for the preschool-to-kindergarten transition.
➡️ Meaningful engagement and support from families.
Our students benefit every day from the efforts of a community that believes in them. Support from partners such as PRI (Partners for Rural Impact), STC (Save the Children), and the FRYSC (Family Resource Youth Service Center) has provided families with essential educational resources and learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.
We are also proud to serve families through:
➡️ Rosie the Readiness Bus, our mobile learning unit that brings early learning directly into the community.
➡️ STC Early Steps to School Success, supporting families with resources beginning at birth.
➡️ PRI’s Kindergarten Readiness Camp, giving incoming kindergarten students a head start by practicing routines and building key readiness skills.
Every one of these supports—every partnership, every family connection, every intentional strategy—reflects Viper Elementary’s commitment to ensuring students enter school ready to learn, grow, and succeed from day one.
A huge thank-you to the Perry County Community Collaborative, a network of dedicated educators and community partners working to positively impact early childhood education across our region. Together, we’re making a difference!
